Pop music pours out from the open front door of the house as Sam and Max approach, Sam can see various people lingering around by the door as she makes her way up the steps.
"Hello," Sam smiles at the various patrons as she and max pass them.
Sam figured that her sister's sweet sixteen were bound to have a good amount of people in attendance. Like Sam was, the twins are popular girls with lots of friends. But the sheer amount of people lingering around the house as Sam and Max weave through them all is slightly overwhelming.
"Mom?" Sam finally manages to make it to the kitchen with Max at her side.
"Sam! There you are." Jessica greets Sam with a friendly smile. "How was the drive, sweetie?" She asks Sam as she hugs her.
"Fine." Sam laughs a little at her mom's cheerfulness. "We brought gifts." She gestures to Max once Jessica lets her go.
"Oh, perfect." Jessica turns her attention over to Max. "Follow me and we'll put those with the rest." She beckons for Sam and Max to follow her.
The trio weaves through the house out to the backyard where mostly everything is set up for the party. A large table sits under a folding canopy, with a vast number of balloons and presents sitting atop it. Max walks over and sets the bags down before he turns back to Sam and Jessica.
"Quite the little get-together." Max jokes as people bustle all around the group.
"Oh, you should have seen Sam's sweet sixteen." Jessica laughs. "She had half of her high school class all crammed into the backyard for it."
"Mom!" Sam blushes a bit from embarrassment. "It wasn't that bad." She shakes her head.
"Of course Asher was the worst one of the bunch." Jessica continues to spin tales of Sam's childhood. "The house was a wreck after him and all of his friends were done."
"Yes, speaking of Ash and the twins. Where are they?" Sam is quick to get the topic of conversation off of her past.
"The twins are over there." Jessica points over to the other side of the yard that is harboring a small circle of teenage girls all giggling. "As for your brother, well I have no clue where he is." She shrugs.
"Right, well I'm gonna go say hi to Sierra and Cheyenne." Sam nods. "You coming, Max?" She glances over at him.
"Go ahead." Max shakes his head. "I'll keep your mom company for a bit."
Sam nods and walks off to see the twins and wish them a happy birthday. As she makes her way across the yard she keeps a keen eye out for Chris, who she has yet to see in the crowd of parents and teens.
"So, how is my daughter holding up with all of this?" Jessica turns to Max once she is sure Sam won't be able to hear them.
"She's nervous," Max replies as he watches Sam disappear in the sea of guests. "But who could blame her." He adds.
"No one." Jessica agrees. "What Chris has put her through. I swear, sometimes I don't know why I put up with that man." She shakes her head with a sigh.
"I think deep down he's just trying to protect her," Max replies. "In his own twisted way, at least. I mean look at all the shit he's been through in his career."
"Still, I just hope that Chris will stop all this nonsense and let Sam be happy." Jessica shakes her head again.
"You and me both, " Max chuckles.
Back on the other side of the yard, Sam finally manages to make it to her sister's little posse of teens. She breaks through their little circle and greets her sisters with a cheerful smile.
