Early the next morning Sam is up with Wardlow after he insists that he knows a great gym that they can get a quick workout at. Sam happily agrees to it and the pair head out well before anyone else in the group is even up.
Wadlow takes Sam downtown and to an impressive-looking gym with multiple floors and a huge facility made to accommodate just about anything fitness-related you could think of.
"Wow, this place is nice." Sam gushes as she and Wardlow make their way to the front desk.
"Yeah, I used to hang out here a lot when I lived in the area." Wardlow nods.
"Right." Sam nods. "Well, this should be fun then." She grins.
While Sam is busy hanging out with Wardlow in the gym, her father is across town on the phone with his wife. And the conversation isn't exactly going well.
"You are a despicable human being Christopher," Jessica yells into her phone from the boarding room at the airport. "Tell me, Chris, what exactly did you think you were going to accomplish in threatening to beat up your own daughter?" She asks him.
"Jess, will you just calm down please?" Chris replies in a much quieter tone.
"Calm down?' Jessica replies in a sneer that Chris can hear through the phone. "You threaten to beat my daughter's ass on national television and you're telling me to calm down." She fumes.
"I did what I had to do. She needs to be stopped, Jess. Before this goes too far." Chris insists. "Now will you please stop yelling at me for a moment?" He asks.
"Bullshit, Chris." Jessica doesn't let up. "I'm headed down to Pittsburgh on the next flight. It departs in an hour." She informs him. "And Chris, if you so much as harm a hair on that girl's head before I get there. I'll beat you." She warns him before she hangs up.
"Shit," Chris mumbles to himself, knowing that he's on for trouble when Jessica arrives.
Chris has been married for around 30 years now, and he knows better than anyone never to piss off his wife. Sam's quick temper and pension for holding a grudge doesn't come from him. It comes from her mother.
Jericho has faced a lot of obstacles in his life. He's gotten through way worse situations than this with a breeze. But to this day, nothing scares Chris more than seeing his wife pissed off and on the warpath.
A couple of hours later Sam is headed back to the hotel with Wardlow. It's safe to say that she ran herself ragged in the gym and she is more than a little ready to get a shower and a chance to relax for a few hours.
When Sam gets back to the hotel she discovers a few missed calls from Chris. She scoffs and rolls her eyes at all the messages. 'Now he wants to talk.' She thinks to herself as she deletes all the missed calls.
"Your dad bothering you?" Wardlow asks when he notices Sam's frown.
"What, are you physic now or something?" Sam snickers.
"Well who else is going to make you look down at your phone like you wanna throw it against a wall violently?" Wardlow chuckles with her.
"True." Sam nods. "He's called me like five times in the last hour."
"Maybe it's an emergency." Warlow shrugs. "I'd call him back if I were you." He suggests.
"Yeah. I probably should." Sam sighs, knowing that he's right.
Sam sets down her gym bag and is about to dial Chris's number to see what he wants when the door to the hotel room swings open and Max comes in. He saunters right over to Sam without a care and takes her attention away from her phone.
"There she is! Wardlow finally decides to let you free?" Max jokes.
"Hey!" Wardlow chimes in.
"Yeah! Wardlow makes great company." You defend him. "Why? What's up?" She asks Max.
"You need to hustle up and get changed, princess. I got us some lunch reservations downtown at this new sushi place that everyone is saying is super good." He explains.
"Oh." Sam nods and puts her phone back in her pocket. "Okay, give me like ten minutes." She grabs her suitcase and hauls it into the bathroom.
Max waits for Sam to shut the bathroom door behind her before he turns his attention on Wardlow.
"Spears wants you to meet him in the lobby in half an hour." He informs him. "Something about steak I think." Max shrugs.
"Oh yeah, I totally forgot." Wardlow nods. "Spears and I made reservations for this nice steakhouse for lunch. Thanks." He thanks Max for reminding him. "Have fun eating raw fish on your date though." He snickers.
"I will." Max rolls his eyes. "Pretty sure Sam makes way better company than Spears."
Sam comes out of the bathroom almost on cue looking all dolled up for her date. Max laughs and walks over to her side.
"See what I mean? Pretty sure that Spears couldn't pull this look off." He laughs.
"Well, I can't argue with that." Wardlow shrugs. "You two have fun."
"We will. See you later Wardlow." Sam nods and waves before her and Max head off.
Sam and Max head downtown for their lunch date. A sweet afternoon spent trading flirty comments and just general sweet conversation. Both of them are blissfully unaware of the pure fury about to be unleashed on them as soon as Jessica's plane touches down in a few hours.
Meanwhile, Chris is scrambling to clear his schedule so he can meet Jessica at the airport when she lands. Better to face her head-on than let her anger boil while she takes a cab to meet her husband. At least when she sees that he came down to pick her up it'll soften the blow a bit. At least that's what Chris is desperately hoping for. Hell hath no fury like a mama bear protecting her kids.
