The drive out to the Jericho compound is mostly quiet between Sam and her plus one. It isn't until they are a few minutes away does Sam decide that she should lay down some ground rules for dinner.
"Okay, let's get a few things straight." Sam glances at Max for a second to make sure that he's paying attention.
"Okay." Max nods casually.
"I want to make it perfectly clear that we are only here to fuck with my dad. Just my dad." Sam reminds him. "That means you leave my mother and my siblings out of this. Got it?"
"Of course!" Max nods. "I promise to be the perfect gentlemen and house guest. Cross my heart." Max crosses his hand over his chest with a grin.
"Mhm." Sam rolls her eyes at the theatrics. "Okay, another thing. Cheyenne and Sierra are both only 15 and currently in their boy-crazy phase." She warns him. "Now, I don't know if they know who you are because last time I checked they weren't super into the family business. But, I can almost guarantee that when they see you, at least one of them is going to show interested. Please don't encourage them." She glances over at Max again to gauge his reaction.
"It sounds to me like I am just the weakness of all of the Irvine women." Max chuckles.
"Shut it." Sam scoffs.
Sam pulls off onto a long dirt road that winds to the left. The car passes a long line of trees and breaks out to a large house with an even larger yard and garage.
"Okay," Sam parks her car by the garage. "Play nice, Friedman." She warns him one last time.
The pair make their way up to the front door and Sam goes to knock to be polite. Before she can hit her knuckles against the large oak door, it's pulled open.
"Hey! You're actually on time for once." Asher is the one to answer the door. "And you managed to bring a boyfriend with you this time. Progress." He teases Sam.
"Awe, jealous that I can score you're still single, Ash?" Sam teases him right back. "Max, this is my little brother, Asher. Ash, this is Max." She briefly introduces the two strangers.
"Oh, I know who he is." Asher laughs. "And I for one, cannot wait for this dinner." He grins and lets his sister and her companion inside.
Sam and Max head inside and past the main foyer. All of Sam's trophies that are now in boxes at her place have been replaced by ones from Asher and the twins. Every single one of them. Sam rolls her eyes at the subtle petty move and continues through the house.
"Mom's in the kitchen, the rest of us are in the dining room," Asher comments when everyone passes the door to the kitchen.
"Thanks, Ash." Sam nods before he disappears through the other door. "Come on, let's go say hello to my mom." Sam beckons for Max to follow her. "Mom? Hey, I brought a salad for dinner." Sam makes her way into the kitchen to see her mom standing in front of the stove.
"Sam!" Jessica turns around to hug her daughter. "Don't you look lovely, and thank you." She hugs Sam and takes the container from her.
"Thanks, mom." Sam laughs. "Whatever you're making smells great, by the way." She adds.
"Oh, I'm sure that you could do much better." Jessica shakes her head. "And Max, great to see you again. And welcome, make yourself at home sweetie." She turns to Max standing silently behind Sam.
"Thank you. You have a lovely home." Max nods politely.
"I'm gonna go ahead and introduce Max to everyone else, mom. But just let me know if you need any help cooking." Sam grabs Max's arm to drag him away.
