The next morning Sam is up early and out of the house to pick up her sister a present for their birthday. A brief call to her mom reveals that the twins are both super into records, and Jessica bought them each a player. So Sam picks up a few records of the girl's favorite artists for them as well as a cute bag to put them all in.

She left Max at the house to shower and get ready so they could leave early. Sam would hate to show up late for the party. Both for her sister's sake and because she'd hate to give Chris another cheap excuse to be cross with her and Max.

When Sam gets back to her house she finds that Max is just barely out of the shower. She scoffs at the sight of him just starting to dig around for a clean pair of clothes and shakes her head.

"I was gone for like an hour and a half." Sam comments. "What did you fall while you were in there?" She jokes.

"Perfection takes time, princess," Max replies casually. "You of all people should know that."

"Oh, whatever." Sam rolls her eyes with a grin. "Just don't take forever to pick out an outfit please." She asks him. "I really don't want to be late."

"Relax." Max shrugs. "We'll be fine. Mark my words sweetheart, today is going to go smoothly." He insists with an air of confidence about him.

"I hope so." Sam sighs and decides that she mind as well freshen up before they leave.

By the time Sam is done freshening up, Max is all preened and ready to head out. Sam grabs her keys and presents then meets Max at the door. Piper and Bisky both are standing at his feet swatting at one another casually.

"Sam, you're child is being mean to my poor Piper." Max comments.

"Not my fault Piper is a spoiled brat," Sam replies with a small laugh. "Get you two, and play nice." She gently pushes Bisky with her foot and both cats take off running. "Here, you can carry these." Sam hands Max the presents before she opens the door.

Max takes the gifts and both of them head off to Sam's parent's place once again. Sam drives since it's her car but Max can tell that there is an air of nervousness about her. He hates seeing her worrying about something as simple as a birthday party. But deep down he knows what's at stake here.

"Sam, you know that everything is going to be fine right?" Max gently pokes at Sam's arm about halfway through the trip.

"Ha! You don't know my dad." Sam shakes her head. "Mom said that he agreed to talk to me. But when has that ever worked out okay?' She sighs, trying to focus on the road.

"It's a birthday party, I'm sure that Chris will behave." Max insists.

"That's not what I'm worried about." Sam shakes her head. "I know he's not stupid enough to cause a scene or anything like that."

"Well then what is it?" Max presses Sam.

Max can tell that whatever Sam is thinking, it can't be good. He knows by the look in her eyes she's got something on her mind that is really eating at her.

"I'm...I'm afraid that he won't accept that we're in love." Sam shakes her head. It's not like her to be so preoccupied with something as trivial as this. But she is. "I love you Max, but I don't want to fight with my dad forever about this."

"Hey, I get it," Max replies softly. "He's your dad, and you love him no matter what. Sam, we've just got to show him that he can't bully or strongarm us into breaking up. Because what we have is real, and no one can change that."

Sam takes her eyes off the road for a second to glance over at Max. She laughs internally, thinking about the surreal fact that a year ago she despised Max almost as much as her dad. And now she's in love like she's a smitten teenager again.

"What?" Max notices her staring.

"Nothing." Sam grins to herself. "It's stupid." She insists.

"No, come on. Tell me." Max shakes his head. "What's on that pretty little mind of yours now?" He asks her.

"It's just...never in a million years did I ever imagine that I'd be falling in love with someone like you." Sam laughs. "I always saw myself settling down with someone the opposite of you." She admits.

"And why's that?" Max replies curiously. "What's the opposite of me? Someone dull and boring?"

"Oh shut up." Sam rolls her eyes. "It's just, you're so forward and out there you know? Never afraid to speak your mind. You don't care who you offend."

"Well, neither do you, Sam." Max laughs. "Look, I've always known that there was something special about you." He admits. "From the moment we met backstage at that show and you gave me attitude for trying to flirt with you. I knew there was something there. Even before I knew that Jericho was your dad."

"Really? You never told me that, Max." Sam glances over at him again.

"I didn't really think it was important." Max shrugs. "As soon as I found out that you signed with AEW I knew that I couldn't stay away. You were just too much like me. Your personality to magnetic for me to ignore. Fucking with Chris? That was just a bonus."

"Oh, so it was really me that was the irresistible one after all then?" Sam jokes with a wide smile.

"I guess so." Max chuckles with her.

Sam starts to feel a bit better about things after their conversation, and soon enough they are at Sam's childhood home. Various cars are already parked in the driveway so Sam opts for a spot a bit further away and parks.

"Okay, grab the bags." Sam takes one last deep breath and opens her car door. "And prepare to be bombarded by relatives and a gaggle of teenage girls." She warns Max.

"I'm not worried about it." Max shrugs again. "I've got you to back me up." He grins.
