*Ava's POV*

I woke up curled up on my bed, shivering from the nights cold. After sneezing my way out of sleep I sat up and stretched.

Reese still seemed to be gone, and I couldn't help but feel a little uplifted. He was great but it still seemed to exhaust me dealing with his shots at me that hit too close to home than I liked.

I found pen and paper and wrote a quick note in case he came back while I was gone. It read;
"I'm going to get some supplies, be back soon!" and got ready to go.

I rode on my childhood bike and tried not to think about any memories.

***

I arrived at the river in no time, and was soon filling up on water and washing laundry, doing my best not to get attacked by a straying zombie.

Honestly half the reason I was still there, and human not zombie, or dead, was my luck. Lucky me.

I sighed and soon got back on my bike, ready to return home.

Suddenly a zombie jumped on to the road out of nowhere.
I barely made the turn around the monster, my bike sliding out of control. With all my strength I pressed my feet on the ground firmly, and avoided falling over.

Jumping off I wanted to grab my baseball bat, but realized that it wasn't with me. Terrified I scanned my surroundings looking for a substitute while internally screaming at my stupidity.

It lunged at me and I dodged, but just barely. In no time I was running as fast as possible towards the rubble of a house across the street.

I grabbed a random plank of wood from the ground and hit the zombie with strength powered by fear. It's head flew right off and I wasted no time in getting back to my bike.

As I rode back home I couldn't help but shake from the adrenaline the surprise attack had given me.

But to be honest it might just have been the cold, so never mind.

BANG

My heart missed a beat at the super loud explosion sound. I stumbled but found control on the bike before I tumbled off as majestic as a rotting log of wood on a truck.

I pedaled quicker and soon got to my base. That's when the siren started. A loud combination of sounds, but in the form of a siren song. I clamped my hands over my ears whining in panic, but not before I noticed the sound was coming from the neighborhood next door to mine and Ivy's.

She'd told me about this. It's the distraction device. It had to be.

"The distraction device will go off if it senses a loud sound coming from my house to distract the zombies. I need your address so it doesn't lead them to you" she had said to me that day.

A/n I know this chapter was also quite short but I didn't have the energy to write more of it sorry :')
