Slowly I counted down the seconds;
3,
2,
1,The arrow flew through the air, piercing through the zombies rotting head. I tried not to grin, although I was quite proud of the good shot. It was around a good thirty or forty meters away, with me on the roof of some persons house. The zombie had practically been asking for it, since this was my daily route and it stood right in front of the sweet shop, close to an ally way that had been used for...
Anyway,
This street was mostly abandoned these days, with the supermarket close by collecting practically all zombie interest with its many objects falling off shelves, and the registers occasionally beeping without stop.
Yet, today about twenty zombies had wondered into the street the past hour, and I had killed nine out of them. I missed thrice, and was trying to clear the area to collect the arrows safely from the corpses.
My record of zombies-killed-in-one-day was 31, which was a lot to me. However my rival friend had a record of 50.
Today we competed again, and once more I seemed destined to lose, even with my determination.
A loud growl approximately 30, feet away gained my attention, making my head turn.
Another one.
It was going to be my tenth victim. I loaded my bow and got into position, and then-
"Get bONKed dead dude!"
I watched with a sigh as my zombie was killed by my sole companion since the apocalypse had hit. She had been killing rather a lot of zombies I first had in my sight. Quite annoying if you ask me.Three more appeared in front of her and she ran forth, ready to challenge them.
I rolled my eyes and sighed.
I observed as she struck one on the head, and I cringed in disgust at the sickening sound of the zombies skull cracking. With a sharp turn of her body she faced the next zombie, tightening her grip on the baseball bat with her dirty blood-covered hands, and spun around, gaining momentum.
The zombie stumbled forward, one of its legs already fractured, and was hit in the chest by the bat, throwing it out of the way, and landing sharply against a brick wall. The left arm promptly fell off.
Ava then proceeded to stumble around, clearly very dizzy, whacking everything within the reach of her bat as self defense. Lucky for her, the third stupid zombie growled loudly and got a face full of baseball bat.
Unluckily for her while the girl was busy celebrating and doing a victory dance, the zombie that got thrown against the grey hard concrete wall made its way forward, and having most of its mouth destroyed it launched a sneak attack at her back.
With a mental face palm at her I aimed carefully and shot the zombie down, my eyes watching it fall to the ground and lay there still. I mentally added one to my score and choose to ignore that my opponent most likely had over double that.
"Ivy! What are you up too?!" She smiled and waved me over with her bat in her right hand, blood staining her skin and clothes.
"I'm just here talking to the zombies"
I answered with a bored face. It took a few seconds for my voice to reach her.She furrowed her eyebrows in response, and whispered under her breath "Seems someone needs therapy." before looking back up at me again, and waving me over, again.
I loaded my bow just in case, and made my way over.
"I bet you lost again."
"No I did not."
"Fine! How about you hand over that bow and I won't kill anymore zombies today" she says, reaching out her hand.It was tempting but stupid.
"You don't even know how to use a bow, nor how to aim it" I answer.
"Who cares! Besides, I'm sure I'll figure it out sooner then you did!"
"I was in archery club Ava. I know best how to use a bow, and I won't just hand it over to you, just to win a silly game."
I began to walk away. Yet before I could make my escape from the social interaction she grabbed my ponytail and pulled it, making me stumble back.
"I- wow your hair is soft"
She bend over and sniffed my freshly washed hair.
Why? Trust me, knowing where the closest soap, shampoo, conditioner and other various cleaning supplies are comes in handy when you do not have the time nor knowledge to create your own in a laboratory.
However this wasn't what I wanted to be happening. Why my poor hair.
