*Ivy's POV*

Seeing the rubble, the dirt, glass, wood, all blown into thousands of pieces tore me apart. Why had I been so selfish to work on a bomb? To risk his life... It was so heartless of me, so stupid.

My bottom lip shook, my eyes blurry with tears.

Everything I had worked for was gone. My home was gone. My family was gone.

Heartbroken. My heart was torn to shreds. And it felt like the final blow when I remembered the last pieces of my past, my happy world. The family photo from our last year together. It was in a pristine wooden brown frame, wonky smiles on me and my sibling as we sat on the picnic blanket eyeing the cake. Mom sat beside dad, his head resting on her shoulder. They both looked at peace, so in love with each other. The way they smiled at us two had made me cry every time I looked at it.

This absolute mess left me with basically nothing.

No-where to call home, nothing left of the past but memories, and of course dust, dirt and pain.

It shattered my heart to have to accept that fate.

"I really do have nothing left now"

I began to laugh. It was all gone. He was gone. I was the only thing left of my family. My laughter rose in volume, making my chest rise and fall in shuddering breaths. Tears fell from my wide eyes. I really didn't want this to be real. This must have been a nightmare, right? How could my family be killed? It seemed impossible. I couldn't do anything but laugh, cry, just exist.

So useless. Incompetent. Ignorant. Stupid. I was all these words.

Why. Why. Why? Why?!  I put my hands over my face, trying to hide away. I didn't deserve this. I was just a child. I was just a dumb child.

Perhaps Elijah did it on purpose, maybe he did not want to live in this demented ruin of a world. I had not even gotten to ask why he wanted to be called Reese in the first place. Did he not like the name? Did he not want to remember our life before? Was I too much of a reminder? And to think I brought him to the house we had lived in, it must have driven him to his breaking point. It was possible that Reese had wanted to take me down with him. And I deserved that.

It was my fault. Why couldn't I be a good person? I tried. I know I tried. Again I asked.
"Why?"

I stayed silent while she drove us home, and did not even realize when we arrived.

The heartache kept me too busy to notice.

I stepped out of the car and past the gate, Ava right behind me.

I stood there, too tired to even acknowledge the cold. My tears had stopped. I just felt empty. I felt dead. I hadn't expected it to hurt that much.

"Ava..." I turned to her unable to look her in the eyes. What had he said about them? Ah, that they were together. That she loved him. I got her partner killed. "I'm so-"

I felt her hand slap me across the face. "Shut up!"

I stumbled back. Ava shoved me back, nearly pushing me over.

"You don't get to apologize! You don't get to feel sorry for yourself!" She screamed at me, tears pouring from her eyes. "How could you? It- saying sorry doesn't fix anything!" I watched with guilt in my eyes as Ava fell to her knees, shaking.

"He's dead." her sobs echoed through the garden "He's gone!" I clasped a hand over my mouth.

Before I could stop myself I was turning and running to the other side of the garden, hiding away behind her plants. I could hear her shout in frustration and kick at the ground. I listened as Ava got up and climbed into the tree-house.

Only then did I allow myself to fall to the ground and relax my body. And to my small surprise tears came to my eyes again.

I felt sick. My guts felt as if they had been turned inside out.

Elijah had been my only sibling, and called himself my rival. I loved him with all my heart. Nearly all our memories were happy, well, excluding the petty fights as kids. He would usually let me get my way because he got in trouble with our parents a lot.

I didn't get to do a lot of things myself, since I had to give everything to becoming a prodigy. Something special or nothing at all, were my two choices in life.

It was getting pretty freezing, and I opened my eyes properly to see what was up.

A few hours must have passed since the sun had moved a considerable amount.

Ava seemed so full of pure hatred directed at me. I should have had a medal on how easily I gained hate from people that seemed to have power over my life.

The teachers, some children, and now Ava. But I was not in a position to shift blame onto her when the entire event was my fault.

I ripped off a leaf from a bush beside me and tore it to shreds. I took another and did the same.

Rain began to fall, the sharp droplets dropping down to the ground causing me to cry harder, the sobs slipping from my control. I could not stop, and so just sat there with a gnawing pain in my chest.

A shot few sentences crossed my mind during those many minutes, hours maybe.

It already happened. You can't change what happened. What's done is done. Reese is going to be at peace now. Ava will get over it. Survival is your top one priority.

My former home was gone forever and I could not do anything about it. I hated this damned world.
