*Ava's POV*

I woke up with my whole back sore, laying on the grass, cuddled up with Ivy. The morning was frosty, and I couldn't feel my toes. Probably not a good sign.

I got up and stretched before grabbing some rations for the day and eating my breakfast. I changed into a clean grey jumper and pulled on a relatively new pair of baggy sweatpants before grabbing a hair-tie and tying my hair into a loose ponytail.

I grabbed a first aid kit and did my best to clean the wounds Ivy had, and bandage them up.

I knew it was kind of stupid not to have done that the day before, but I had been in no shape mentally and physically to do the job carefully.

The day was s spent with me caring for Ivy like a nurse with social anxiety on her first day in a five-star hospital helping with a teen pregnancy. And when night fell and Reese still hadn't returned I was heartbroken, but even then I couldn't feel useless for not finding him. Not when I had helped Ivy with all I had.

But it still felt selfish. I just hoped that by some chance he was still alive, and that my promise to him was not for nothing.

But it was too dangerous to search for him outside, especially since that would mean I would have to leave Ivy alone.

I took a few deep breaths and tried to think about this rationally.

Reese still hasn't come back. He might be safe, dead, or if worst comes to worst dying of his wounds while I hole up with Ivy trying to bring her back to being conscious.
Ivy is here, but has suffered a lot of injuries. This would mean that she has a chance of recovering, but also a chance of dying. I am healthy and the only one surely capable of taking care of her. I have to take care of her because there is nothing else I can do. Even if I look for Reese there is a chance I won't find him or that I'll get hurt...

I stayed still for an hour or so, concentrated on my thoughts and what to do next.

I finally decided that I should just go to sleep and keep helping Ivy. So I brought her up to the tree-house and placed her in my bed. I went to lie down on the floor with a blanket, but the bite of early winter cold attacked me ruthlessly and I hesitantly climbed into bed beside Ivy to escape it.

In no time I was asleep.

A/n I know this is another short chapter but I don't think you'll mind since you probably just wanna finish the story so here ya go! Bye and remember to eat and drink :)
