The dead body writhed for a moment as his soul departed unto the after life leaving his body a pale form of what it once were. As his soul left the young reaper hung her scythe by her back as she let a sigh slip her breathe. Another job well done.
It is 1700 currently and Calli has been on the job for the past couple centuries , sending the souls of those who's "times have finished" to the afterlife to be judged, for this is the life of a reaper. They've been given the task to send souls to the afterlife no matter their age, status nor gender, for death comes to all some day, or at least that's what Death sensei said.
Her current job was a man in his mid forties, such a shame for him really for having no family to pass the farm he worked so hard to earn from the feudal lord at that time. He died of an unknown plague and when Calli arrived he was already "sleeping", ready to die.
She opened the door to reveal a man waiting for her. A cloaked reaper, his face was masked by a skull and hung in his back was a large scythe that shone like a bright moon. It's Death Sensei.
Calli was startled for a moment seeing her master before immediately retracting her scythe and bowing. "Good day to you Death-sensei, I just finished my shift."
Gestured her to raise her head as he looked behind her. "Clean work Miss Mori, but I'm not here for an inspection so you can skip the formalities." Death Sensei said as he grabbed a bottle of rum from his cloak and pointed towards a small rock in front of the cabin.
Though the farmland they were in was out in the open there was practically no one there, letting the two of them stay out in the open without any distractions.
As the two walked towards the rock Death removed his mask taking in the cool farmland air around him. His face seemed both ageless and ancient being paler than even Calli's skin he had a positive light to him, grinning as he finally took his seat. Taking a lot swig of the rum then passing it to Calli. "So you called me for some advice. Wanna talk about it?"
Calli took a small gulp of rum before beginning. "Well recently Sensei I have had some feelings around some of my clients." She passed the bottle to sensei.
Sensei took another small gulp, wiping his mouth with his cloak before questioning her. "Oh? What kind of feelings do you have dear apprentice?" Sensei asked passing the bottle to Calli.
Calli shook her head "not my type of rum. But I don't know how to describe it sensei. It makes my stomach feel all fuzzy and cheeks get all hot."
"Suit yourself" Death mumbled before taking another light swig of rum. "Is this about that Sailor girl incident we had the other week? Calli I told you, in this line of business we can't have feelings towards people, it hinders our work."
"I know that Sensei. But it's been difficult as the moment I noticed it I couldn't 'unnotice' it. Like have you ever had this feeling. Like what do the people nowadays call it... love?"
Death gave a shrug "never in my existence. But from what I heard from my apprentice a great method I heard would ignoring them. Now that may be hard at first but after some time these temporary feelings will be disappear. Remember, feelings don't last forever. Along with people, one day these emotions will die off. And if it's still there after that... just keep working. It'll keep your mind off it."
Calli stayed silent for a moment. As an apprentice it is her duty to take down all of her sensei's teachings as advice. Plus she's only a couple hundred years old at this point. What did she know?
Calli nodded her approval to sensei. Thanking her for the lesson.
Death nodded back, putting his mask on the Grimm Reaper gestured a goodbye. Letting Calli go back to work, reaping souls as her feelings slowly disappeared as sensei predicted.————————-
A/N: For context, the next few chapters will be interlude as I prepare for the last length of the story. No promises, but assuming all will go to plan by next week we will have the first of the many final chapters. So while waiting enjoy some shorter length stories.
