[trigger warnings (other than blanket warnings in description): sick warning]

You were just getting as far away from Levi as you possibly could. Walking down the street. He'd taken the keys to the car. You had your license, your cell phone, your Metro card, and thirty dollars in cash on you. That was it. You got on the Metro and found your way to Emily's.

"Oh, god, Y/N, what—? Come in, what happened?"

You fell into her arms, sobbing. She was practically holding you up, so she took you to her couch.

"Y/N, what's happening? Did something happen with Levi?" Yeah, to be honest.

Suddenly you were acutely aware of the engagement ring on your finger. It was beautiful, but a horrifying symbol of the man you had been so afraid of.

"Emily..."

"Are you hurt? Did he do something to you? I swear to god, I'll kill that bastard—"

"Please..."

"Did he find out about JJ?" You shook your head. "No? Okay, what can I do?" You grabbed a pillow and sobbed. Emily put her arms around your shoulders and let you cry. "Do you want me to call JJ? Or no?"

"Please...Emily..."

"Yes?" You nodded. "Okay. I'll be right back, will you be okay?"

"Mm-hmm,"

"Okay."

JJ was there in fifteen minutes. Emily explained to her that she didn't know what was wrong. JJ came and sat next to you, and you were sobbing until you felt sick.

Gasping for air, you ran to the bathroom and got sick. JJ followed you, though slower, and looked at Emily. 'Is she drunk?' JJ mouthed, miming the action of drinking to further her point. You couldn't see them, so you didn't know what they were doing. You could just feel JJ holding your hair back and Emily's vague presence.

'I don't think so,' Emily responded.

"It's alright, Y/N," JJ said, "I'm here. I love you, sweetheart." She rubbed your back until you were done. Her hand rested on your shoulder, and you were slingshot back to your apartment with Levi pinning you to the wall.

You panicked and made your way into the corner, crying and wanting to scream. Your body was on fire. "Lev..."

"Y/N, Y/N, honey, it's fine. You're safe. You're safe. It's just JJ and Emily. We're right here. Levi—Levi's not here. He cannot hurt you now. I've got you, love. Can I sit with you?"

You nodded with care, still apprehensive. JJ looked up at Emily and explained, with one look, that she would handle the situation.

"Emily's gonna go get us some water, does that sound okay?"

"Mm...mhm,"

"Alright. I'm gonna stay with you, if you want that. Do you want me to stay? Anything you need, love, what do you need?"

"I...I can't...JJ..." Your breath heaved and you turned to look at your girlfriend with terror and pain.

"Oh, sweetheart. I'm right here. Can I touch you, or no?"

"Please don't," you cried. JJ nodded her agreement and understanding.

"That's fine, love. Do you want me to sit with you? Or I'll leave,"

"Stay,"

"Okay."

Emily brought in the waters and figured out that JJ had sort of calmed you down. You would glance over at her to make sure you were all safe as you tried to calm down. JJ just sat with you, until eventually you put your head on her shoulder.

You sniffled as JJ stayed with you, more than content to be silent and let you cry. Ten minutes later, you quietly requested, "Can we go sit somewhere?" Somewhere else. JJ understood.

"Yes, my love. Of course. Here, let me help you up." She took your hand and pulled you up. "Let's go to the couch, alright, love?" You nodded and sniffled.

Emily was sitting on the couch and tried to smile. Your compassionate sister. JJ finally sat beside you, leaving you between the two of them, and put her hand on the center of your back. "Is this okay? If it's not, please let me know, honey,"

"Fine," you whispered. "Thank you,"

"Mhm. I love you, sweetheart. Now, can we do something quick? Um..." JJ looked at Emily.

"Y/N, I know you're hurting right now, and you don't have to tell us why, but I need to know what I'm up against. We're gonna protect you, but we have to understand what we're protecting you from,"

"Yeah," you murmured. You leaned up against JJ, and she very carefully put her arms around you. "Thank you," you repeated. "This is good,"

"I'm right here, sweetheart. You can tell me anything, you know that, right? Emily and I are gonna help you, love. Can..." She sighed. "Can you tell me what happened tonight?"

"I—Levi," you said, your voice mouselike and scared he would hear you. He was nowhere nearby, but he was going to hurt you again.

"What about him?"

"He...JJ..." you cried.

"Y/N, Y/N, you're safe. You're in my apartment, and JJ and I are here, and you're safe now. Levi cannot hurt you here. Did you two have a fight?"

"No..."

"Then what happened? Please, Y/N..." Emily was trying desperately to figure out what had happened with you.

"Emily, don't—" JJ warned.

"Jayje, we need to help her,"

"It's more complic—ugh!" JJ let out a controlled sigh and shifted gears. "Y/N, love, you look exhausted,"

"I can't go home," you said.

"No, you're sleeping here tonight," Emily said, shaking her head and trying to hide her annoyance with your girlfriend. "You can sleep in my bed."

They helped you into bed like a child — though you didn't mind, seeing as you were totally exhausted — and went out to sit on the couch again.

"JJ, what is going on? I know he's not so good to her, but she told me he never hurt her,"

"That's a lie," JJ said, tears swimming in her eyes. "She's terrified to break it off because she's scared of what he'll do to her. He's abusive and she can't leave, Emily. She...she told me that he raped her once, a little over a year ago. I only found out about three months ago."

Emily put her head in her hands. "She never told me any of this. She always insisted they just argued. Why did she feel like she couldn't tell me? I would've helped..." Emily cried.

"It's not that simple, Em, you know that." JJ took your sister's hand. "And she begged me — begged me — not to say anything to anyone because no one would believe her. It would just make things worse, she said. I've...it's why she doesn't feel so guilty about being with me. Because he's terrible. He hit her, berated her until she accepted his proposal. She's been trying to figure out a safe...safe-ish...way to break it off,"

"Fuck..." Emily sighed. She rubbed her eyes and leaned back on the couch. "I swear to god, I'm gonna kill that son of a bitch,"

"Yeah. I know. And I'll help you bury the body. But first and foremost, Y/N needs to be okay. Right now, though? I'm hesitant to leave her alone. I don't know what he did to her tonight, but I've hardly ever seen her like this, not even about him,"

"Jayje, you can stay tonight, if you want. She'd rather sleep beside you than me anyway," Emily said. "I'll take the couch,"

"You sure? I don't wanna kick you out of your own bed, and she's your sister,"

"I'm positive, and you're her girlfriend. Let's get some sleep, we can regroup in the morning, alright?"

"Yeah. Maybe then she'll be more ready to talk," JJ said. Emily was grabbing blankets to sleep on her couch, and JJ smiled sadly at her and went to join you in bed.
