The next week was torture being away from Sasuke for so long. Each day, she'd call him and text him, having sneaky phone calls with him in private while she was supposed to be working on the farm. When she told Sasuke about her helping her grandparents out, he was the opposite of happy about what she was doing. The so-called "manual labour" wasn't a job that "his Ayame" should be doing.
She had a great time with her grandparents and brother. It was rare for her to see Yasu - who's bedroom was next door to hers back at home - never mind her grandparents. Misako and Katsuhito were very happy to have them, and she's forgotten what it was like to spend time with a mother. Sure, Misako was Ayame's mother's mother, but she was close enough.
On Friday night, Misako threw a little party, and invited their neighbours around to visit. Ayame had a great laugh spending time with the few teenage girls there - who were actually twins two years younger than her. She realised just then how much she missed her friends back at home, and thinking back, she realised it wasn't just Sasuke that she missed, as she originally thought. She missed all of her friends.
Saturday morning, she got a call from Sasuke. He was driving, but it wasn't the usual quiet sound of his car. It sounded like a powerful, off-roading monster. His phone was on speak phone.
"The weather's great today." He said during their conversation. Ayame was sat in a field of flowers, her phone on the ground beside her basket as she picked flowers from the grass.
"It is, isn't it?" She asked, smiling. "Great for outdoor activities."
"I don't think I remember a time when it was this warm. Thank God I have sunglasses."
She giggled. "I had to borrow one of my grandmother's sun hats. The sun is so bright that I wouldn't be surprised if I got a tan."
"Don't ruin your beautiful skin. Make sure you've got it covered up."
Rolling her eyes, Ayame picked up another flower. "Where are you off to?" She asked, setting the flower into the basket.
"A mystical journey to find the princess." He answered sarcastically, making her laugh. "Nah, I'm just out driving. I like to drive when it's sunny out. Believe it or not, but I like the heat."
"I prefer winter. It's so hard to cool down in summer, but there's always a way to warm up in winter. "
"Wise words." He said approvingly. "What would you do if I could be there with you right now?" He asked.
Ayame shrugged. "Probably glomp you and never let go."
"Why don't you turn around and do it then?"
Her eyes widened. Her head snapped up, turning around, and a wide grin of disbelief grew on her lips. There he was, in all his godlike glory, one hand in the pocket of his worn jeans, the other holding his phone to his ear. She decided that even if she liked him in black, this loose, white, button-up shirt which he'd rolled up at the elbows was definitely a good look for him, and enough to drive any girl crazy.
She let out a happy squeal as she jumped to her feet, running at him and throwing her arms around him. He caught her, using the momentum of her jump and spinning her around before setting her back on her feet and hugging her tightly.
"I missed you," she mumbled, holding him tightly.
"Oh, I missed you too, sweetheart. This week without you sucked." He mumbled, burying his nose in her hair.
"How did you know where I was? Why...?" She asked, pulling away.
"Your sister told me where you were. The press have died down, and I came to get you." He said, leaning forward to place a kiss on her forehead.
