"Are you sure this is okay?" Ayame asked as she glanced through the back window of the Jeep. The Uchiha Estate was becoming nothing but a small dot of light in the distance.
"Of course. The idiot can make his own way back, if he even wants to." Sasuke replied, keeping his eyes on the winding road. "Don't worry about it. Sit properly in your seat."
She did as told, settling into the comfy leather seat. She and Sasuke had just left the estate after spending the day there, and had left Richard behind. Even if she hated him, she had felt slight worry after leaving him behind, with no way to get home, but Sasuke had been reminding her for the past five minutes that Richard could run faster than the fastest man on earth and get home without even getting tired.
It was silent in the Jeep. The windows were rolled right up, sealed tightly so no cold wind could get in. The sound of the engine and rushing air alongside the vehicle were practically silent. Ayame glanced at Sasuke, content with simply staring at him.
Then, he spoke up, seemingly noticing she was staring. "Sweetheart?"
"Yes?" She asked, dropping her gaze with a blush.
"If I were to ask for your hand in marriage, what would you do?"
Her eyes grew wide. "...w-what do you mean?" She stuttered, glancing up at him.
"Not now, obviously. But theoretically, maybe a year or two down the line, if we were still as we are now, would you accept it?" He glanced at her, to see she was staring down at her hands in her lap.
"I..." She opened her mouth to speak, before realising her words that she had intended to say we're a bit blunt. She reworded and then spoke. "I don't want to answer that right now. When the time comes, I'll answer. But until then..."
It was silent for a moment.
"I see. You're hesitant." Sasuke said, and she looked up to see his grip on the steering wheel tightened, his knuckles turning whiter than usual.
"I-It's not that I'm hesitant-"
"What is it, then? If not hesitation, why else would you put off answering a question?"
"Because I'm scared." She admitted, looking down at her hands.
"Scared?" He repeated, confused.
She sighed softly, before continuing. "If I were to marry you, well... There's the obvious thing that any normal girl would be worried about." She mumbled, blushing. "And then there's the publicity problem. And don't forget the vampire situation."
"So you're not answering because you're worried about what our marriage would cause, not because you don't want to marry me?" He asked, glancing at her. She nodded. "So, if I told you not to worry about any of those things, what would your answer be?"
"Yes." She said quietly, swallowing a lump in her throat.
Sasuke grew a smug smile. "That's good." He reached out, taking her hand in his. "I've only ever wanted to marry a person once before, and even then, it had been mostly forced onto me. If I could get a ring on your finger and change your surname within the next year, I would."
"You've asked your life-changing question. Can I ask mine?" She mumbled, looking up at him. He didn't hesitate to nod. "If I asked you to turn me, what would you do?"
She felt his body stiffen. She was scared to meet his eyes, and quickly looked down when he turned to look at her.
He let out a small laugh. "Please tell me you're joking."
After a moment's hesitation, she shook her head. "I'm serious."
He pulled his hand out of hers to place it back against the steering wheel. She felt dread put in her stomach; now she'd gone and done it. She'd pissed him off, majorly.
