“Why are you drinking your life away?” Baro asked as he sat beside me at the bar.

I was drunk after drinking so much.

I hiccupped, “I think I saw April. But she said that she doesn't recognize me.”

“Hye Mi? Really?” Baro asked me, and I nodded my head very exaggeratedly.

Baro has been my best friend for five years, and I told him about April

“She has a child,” I said, tears cascading down my cheeks, “She's married already.”

“Don't jump to conclusions,” Baro said, “How do you know?”

“There was a little girl with her when I saw her today,” I said, downing another glass, “I think she was around four or five.”

“You know…” Baro started, and continued after I gave him my full attention, “Have you ever thought with the possibility that the kid could be yours? I think it matches up… The kid is five years old, and you two haven't seen each other for five years.”

I turned my attention back to the shot glass in front of me and scoffed.

He continued, “And you did mention that you got kicked out of your house, and the two of you were struggling to live. What if she had gotten pregnant then and wanted to kick you out and get some money for the child?”

I said nothing and downed another shot.

“Think about it.”

I said nothing and got up from my seat.

Baro followed after me, steadying me as I trudged back home.

I was too drunk to drive.

The walk was silent as I thought of all of the possibilities that ran through my head.
