It was supposed to be a normal date. We were walking together, hand in hand as we walked down the streets together, blending in with the loud crowd, when I heard someone shouting my name. I turned around to see the very last person I wanted to see.
The loan shark my parents had borrowed money from and never returned, even after their death.
“Run!” I urgently nudged Tristan as he peered curiously at them, and the two of us began the long run down narrow alleyways and such.
I didn't tell Tristan anything about the loan sharks, but even so, I could tell that he probably knew what was going on. Even though he seemed like an idiot, he knew a lot.
He didn't ask me anything.
And that was the last time the loan sharks ever bothered me.
Without Tristan, sometimes I wonder if I would even be alive today.
