"Forbidden Love"

Chapter 13

It was raining that day. I remember it so clearly, just like it was yesterday. Tristan had walked in on me and my supposed 'boyfriend' as we locked lips on the couch.

“I can't believe you…” Tristan whispered as he stared at me, his eyes filled with hurt and betrayal. I pretended to not care, even though it was hard to as I sat in the lap of this random man the Trsitan  had managed to hire for me.

“Did you honestly think that I would like you after you losing the company? You're a worthless piece of trash in my eyes,” I sneered at him, and he clenched and unclenched his fists.

“I can't believe this… Tell me you are lying to me April, because I know that you'd never do this to me,” Tristan begged me.

“You thought wrong,” I sneered at him, “Now get lost. I have no need for you anymore.”

To make my point, I kissed the man in front of him. I heard his heart break as he gave out a harsh wail, and it broke my heart too. But I pretended to not care as he walked away, his back profile slouched and tormented.

That was the last time I saw him.

I shoved myself away from the man, and the man stood up. He said nothing, and bowed, handing me the cheque with multiple zeros. He then left the apartment.

“I'm so sorry,” I whispered to no one in particular minutes after everything that happened came crashing down on me. I caressed my abdomen, “It's for the best… For the baby…”

I stared at the cheque in front of me that had so many trailing zeros. With this amount of money, I could shower the baby with love and never worry about what I had to do to feed it. I put the cheque down on the table, sighing. I walked over to the balcony in the apartment and looked out, to see Tristan still out there, crying his heart out in the rain. My heart clenched, telling myself to run down and bring him back up. To tell him that everything was just a scam. Tell him that I'm pregnant with our baby.

Everything I've done is better for him, for me, for us. Even today, he doesn't know about our baby.
