"For three!" Jake shouted.
I shot the basketball, and, like always, it makes it with nothing but net.
"There you go, Max," I said to my twin brother's best friend, "you owe me ten bucks."
Max sighed and pulled ten bucks out of his wallet.
My twin brother, Jake Brannon, was my best friend.
I had girl friends, too, like Madison. But truly, my best friend was my brother.
We lived in Charleston, on a small dirt road called Daffodil Lane. And, my life was pretty much that. Boring.
I go to a public middle school, McCaphry Academy. I rode my bike to school each day, learned pointless stuff, and rode my bike back home.
I spend most of my time without shoes, playing outside. Living in a beach town, that's what you should expect, I guess.
I dribbled the basketball. I could beat Max any day, but Jake, I wasn't so sure.
"One on one, bro," I said, "you and me."
Jake shrugged and smirked. "Whatever you say, Jos."
I dribbled around him and executed a layup that unfortunately teetered on the rim of the basket and fell to the ground.
I laughed. "Man, Jake."
"I'm just better than you, Josie, it's okay!"
I rolled my eyes.
I heard the sound of a truck coming down our street, and immediately turned my head. We only have a few houses on our street. There's the Millers, they don't like us because we're too loud, then the McDonald's, they have kids in college, the Gray family, with a few small children, and Madison Jackson and her family live on the corner. We have a cute little neighborhood, and then there's the Morrison's house.
Angela Morrison moved out last year, to my dismay, because she was a good friend of mine, I guess. Their house had been on the market for 11 months now.
It occured to me that it was a moving truck, that someone was finally moving into the Morrison house.
A silver Lexus pulled in behind the moving truck.
The doors of the Lexus opened, revealing a family of five. A mom, with long, blonde hair, and a dad, who was muscular and clean-cut.
The mother ran a hand through her hair and sighed, taking in her new house.
The back door opened and a girl stepped out. She looked about two years older than me, maybe 17, and behind her followed a younger girl who looked about 10.
Then I saw him.
His hair was dark blonde and fell messily in his face. It was the perfect combination of messy and clean. He wore a white tee shirt and navy shorts. He was muscular and tan and overall just gorgeous.
