Thomas carried me all the way home.

We teased each other and laughed and I felt totally high but at the same time I felt more alive than I had my whole life.

He put me down in my driveway.

"Bye," he said, "see you tomorrow."

I smiled at him and waved. "Bye, Thomas."

I walked in, a huge grin spread across my face and dripping wet.

Charlotte saw me and grabbed a towel. "Josie, did you walk all the way here in the rain alone?"

"Well-"

"I told Jake he should've waited for you!"

"Mom-"

"Jake, I told you you should've waited."

I smiled to myself. 

I dried off (as much as possible) and took off my tank top and shorts, leaving me in my bathing suit.

Charlotte's makeup was done and she was wearing cute clothes.

"Where are you going?" I asked.

"I'm going to dinner," she said, "with Lisa King and some other moms."

Well this was rare.

Charlotte had no friends; which had never been a problem for her, but now that Lisa is helping her meet some, she's been enjoying herself so much more.

She kissed my forehead. "Tell Jake to take care of you or he's grounded for the rest of his life, okay?"

I laughed. "Okay, have fun with your friends."

She smiled. "Bye, honey."

Jake walked up with pajamas and socks in his hand.

"Sorry, Jos," he said, "I warmed up your pj's and socks in the dryer."

Aw. I had a sweet brother.

I slipped them on. "I don't care, Char just overreacted."

"Okay, well I hope you didn't have to walk back alone."

I tried not to smile. I really tried. 

But instead I blushed and giggled and smiled.

Jake looked at me. "What?"

"Nothing."

"Why are you smiling?"

"No reason."

"Did Thomas stay with you?"

"Yeah."

He waited for a minute. "Did he kiss you?"

I ran upstairs and avoided Jake.

"He did kiss you!" he said, chasing me around the house, "I knew it!"

I avoided him and jumped over the banister.
