"Are you sure you wanna do this?" Thomas asked.

"Um, yeah, I'm not a loser, just teach me."

Thomas had just put his foot on the side of his house and did a backflip. I was determined to learn, even though I had a broken limb.

"Josie, you have a broken arm."

"I don't care! Just go, or I'll try it myself."

"Fine."

He showed me where to put my foot and what to do with my body. During all of this I realized how stubborn I was, and how much I appreciated him for how well he was putting up with my attitude.

"It's easy once you learn," he said, "like riding a bike."

I nodded. "Okay. Should I try it."

"No."

I stuck my tongue out at him, put my foot on the side of his house, and flipped backwards. I landed on my knees.

"Are you okay?" he asked frantically.

"Yeah," I said, laughing, "I'm fine, Jesus."

He sighed. "You were close."

"I was?"

"Yeah, just think about getting your chest up and your feet down as soon as possible. You need to jump way far up."

I nodded. "Alright, I'll try."

I tried again. Knees.

"Do it again."

Knees.

"I'm gonna get it this time," I said, "I swear."

"If you don't, will you pay me 20 bucks?"

I pointed at him. "Dude, you owe me forty already. I'm not losing a 20."

He laughed. "Fine, whatever, just go."

I breathed. I put my foot on the wall, pushed up, not out, and felt my feet land on the ground below me. I looked up at him in surprise.

"Yes!" I shouted.

He picked me up and swung me around. I was so excited.

So excited that I forgot that my boobs were probably pushing up against his chest, and that we were super close, and that he smelled like cologne, which I actually enjoyed.

We both stopped spinning and breathed for a second.

He put me down on the ground, but his hands were still on my waist. They were warm.

I can't even express the amount of buterflies that were in my stomach.

He looked at me, but I didn't think he would kiss me.

"Want some ice cream?"

Even though it was totally out of nowhere, I agreed, and he scooped me my favorite: cookie dough.

"Yes," I said, "I love cookie dough ice cream."

We sat on his rocking chairs on the porch.

"I didn't know that," he said.
