It had been a whole month since the King's moved in.

It felt like just yesterday I was gawking at Thomas's face, watching them load out of the Lexus.

I went jogging that day; something I hadn't done in a while but really wanted to do that day. I popped in my ear buds and slipped on a sportsbra and leggings and started down the boardwalk.

I had always been a strong runner, considering my basketball obsession the coach for the 9th grade team made us run suicides before and after every practice, so pretty much every single day of the week.

I ran to the beat of "Sydney (I'll Come Running)" by Brett Dennen. He did really good with that song.

You know I was never that cool

But I won't be taken for a fool

If they wanna talk trash

They can talk, talk, talk

But they better come correct

I smelled the salt water and felt the morning air hit my face.

And then I hit someone else.

"Oh, I'm sorry!" I said, ripping out my ear buds.

Thomas flashed me a grin. "Watch where you're going, geez."

I scowled. "I thought I hit some stranger!"

He shrugged. "What are you doing up so early?"

"What are you doing up so early?"

"You first."

I sighed. "Running."

"I was gonna go to Stan's but you weren't working today."

I smiled to myself. He didn't go just because I wasn't there?

We walked together on the boardwalk a little ways.

I breathed heavily and wrapped my phone in my earbuds.

"What are you gonna do today?"

He shrugged. "I don't know."

"Me either."

His phone rang. "It's Jake," he told me.

He answered it and I waited for a when he was talking.

"What's up?" I asked when he hung up.

"He told us to go to the beach," he said, "he says he can see us."

I looked down over the railing to see Jake on the beach. Madison was on a beach towel on her phone, and Max was kicking a soccerball back and forth with Jake.

I sighed. "Okay, let's go."

We went down to the beach and Melissa joined soon after. Kasey tagged along behind her.

"Hey, Kase," I said, and she jumped into my arms.

"Hi Josie," she said.

I had a bathing suit on hand, of course, since I always do. It's part of living here; you can always go swimming. And as for my arm, well, bubble wrap and a water-proof sleeve pretty much solves that problem.
