I tapped along to the beat of 'Hold Me' by Cherub.
I don't wanna wake up
Just wanna keep my eyes shut
Stan's was having a slow day today, which was understandable. Monday wasn't exactly a busy day here in the summer. I ate a cinnoman roll that Stan insisted I eat because I was there all day.
It was 4:00 now, and we'd only had a few regular morning customers. I people-watched from the counter.
There was a middle-aged lady walking a dog on the boardwalk, a young couple feeding bread to seagulls, and two little kids flying kites.
I leaned on my hand.
How long can I sleep
With you right here next to me
Come live love
Stan swept the floors.
My shift was up.
"Alright, Stan, see you tomorrow."
He waved. "Go ahead and take tomorrow off, Josie."
I cocked my head. "Really? Why?"
He shrugged. "You've been here all day. It's the least I can do."
I smiled. "You're the best!" I yelled behind me as I walked out.
I hopped on my bike and pedaled home slowly, swerving in the street. I probably looked drunk.
After parking my bike in the garage I headed inside to our kitchen. It was a quaint little kitchen; homey, warm, cozy. You just wanted to bake cookies in it.
Charlotte was reading a cook book while simultaneously boiling something. She always finds new recipes to make for Jake and I, and I absolutely loved them.

"Hey, Jos, how was work?"
I rested my cheek on my hand. "Good, how was pilates today?"
She wavered her hand back and forth. "It was okay. I like Daniel teaching more than Stacy, but it was alright, I guess."
I nodded and fiddled with my purse.
"Something bothering you, honey?"
Something wasn't bothering me, necessarily - something was consuming my mind, yes.
I couldn't stop thinking about Thomas. Cliche, I know. I was confused on how I felt about him.
"How do you know if you like someone?"
She smiled at me. "Who do you like?"
"It doesn't matter."
"Okay, fine."
