It was the second week in my new job and i was already on the edge to burst. Mycroft Holmes was such a prick!
I was a bloody sniper, a soldier, but he insisted that i should work in the office for some time , to test my intelligence or some such shit. It was awful.
But that wasn't all. If i wasn't busy with some paper stuff i was assigned to stalk his stupid brother, keep an eye on him whilst Sherlock run through the streets to catch some murderer."With all due respect , sir, i'm a highly trained sniper and fighter, i'm not made for the office." it was my third visit this week, to talk him out of it but he didn't even look at me whilst talking!
"Like every other agent, but believe me when i say that every single one of them spent at least six months in the office. Just follow my lead, i know what is best for you." how was it possible for him to sound so amused? What kind of human was this man?
"My ass, how is it possible that you order us around if you sit in your office all day long?" My choice of words made him finally look up. But what i found was a smug expression on his face, like he didn't care what i just said."That's none of your business, but i'm holding the best score what means that i'm more than authorized to lead your department. If that's all ,you can leave." he had the audecity to smile before his attention went back to his laptop, ignoring my presence once again.
Fate must be kidding me.
"Fine, have it your way." I run out of his office, ignoring Anthea's calls behind me. Maybe i need to get on his good side.I wasted my afternoon with some shit Mycroft sent to me. It were Sherlock's finances, and he wanted me to sort and classify them, split Watson's stuff from Sherlock's and whatnot. Because apparently , John used Sherlock's money, and Sherlock used Mycroft's. It was a mess.
I worked hours on it until someone knocked on my door, but i ignored it. I was never the best with calculus and this stuff kept me busy. The duo paid so much money for Cab's , it was ridiculous.
A second later it knocked again , and again until i lost my patience.
"What?" i yelled, not caring who it was. The door opened and i thought it was Anthea, checking with my work, but to my surprise it was Sherlock and his side kick.
"I swear to hell, if Mycroft sent you here i'll steal his stupid umbrella.""I'd like to see you try. But yes, he told me to bring you ,...this." the detective threw a file on my desk and took one of the chairs.
I opened it slowly but as soon as i read the words "First assigment" my mood brightened. This was my first mission! No more office!
"You should read it first." Sherlock said , sounding amused. And i did."This is a joke." i laughed. This was no mission, this was baby sitting! Mycroft really assigned my ass to help Sherlock with his next case, because my office work was excellent and the Yard could use some help. "I'm a soldier, not a detective."
"So is John , but he loves it." yes, definitly Mycroft's brother. "Fine, you know what, it's better than office. I can't see any more of your finances."
"Our what?" Watson asked, or better chocked on his words. He must feel a little embarassed. "Finances, John." Sherlock snapped. "I'll text you tomorrow."
John waved awkwardly and followed Sherlock out, leaving the door wide open. If this wasn't a weirdly quick meeting."I wanted to inform you but you were to busy yelling at our boss." It was Anthea, she popped in with a big smile plastered on her face.
"I should apologize, right?" i asked, she knew Mycroft better than anyone else, being his twenty four seven assistent.
"You should. He likes you, no other agent got out of the office this early." and that he already told me. Christ. This is going to be difficult.
"Yah, thanks." She left with a high pitched giggle, like a school girl or something because she knew how much i hated this. I was the youngest agent and fought a lot with the others, what caused me to apologize two times already.Finishing my work i send everything back to the older Holmes, waiting for him to open the mail.
What surprised me was how fast he opened it. Maybe i really was good in the office? Or he didn't have anything to do, who knows.
Without waiting for his answer i packed my stuff and made my way down the hall to Mycroft's office. I wanted to get it over with.
"Good afternoon, miss Ravens." i startled, not expecting anyone to walk behind me. "Goodness, not again.""Again?" Mycroft tilted his head in question. "Yah uh, some weeks ago i collided with somone on the street because neither of us paid attention....Nevermind, i was looking for you, sir." what a great way to start this conversation. Why do i always make a fool of myself?
"Were you?" aaand he sounded smug again. But that's probably just his personality.
"Yah, i uhm, wanted to apologize for today. The way i talked to you was inappropriate. And i actually don't talk like that, i was just angry because i always have to proof myself in front of men.""I understand. And i appreciate your effort, but this is not about your gender. I merely try to fit you in. You don't know what we do or how this works, it would be idiotic to throw you into the unknown." oh. I never thought that way, and he was right. I knew nothing about the MI6.
Gods this was a terrible situation."I really ask myself how i succeeded my carrier that far, i'm so stupid." it wasn't meant to be funny, but my boss laughed. Like really laughed.
"No, you're just young. But you should try to move into a flat, living in a Hotel isn't good for your reputation." now first he complimented me, somehow. And now he's mocking me ? And how could he even know about that?
"It's not easy to find a flat i like. And i'm not sure about a house or flatshare.""You should try, make some...., friends." he spat the last word, disgusted about the thought. I didn't question it, the team told me about his nature. And to be honest, he was an arse and people like him would die alone. "Maybe. I'll see you tomrrow."
As soon as i left the building i fiddled with my phone. Mycroft wasn't the first person who told me to try the house share. And maybe they were right? If i don't like it i could just move out.
Shrugging my shoulders i dialed Sebastians number."Moran?"
"Hi, it's Solar,...Ravens. We met some weeks ago. I'm just calling because i wanted to know if the offer still stands?" there was a voice in the background and i heard how Sebastian excused himself. Maybe i just interrupted something?
"Don't tell me you're still living in a Hotel." He huffed a laugh, making me cringe awkwardly. It was a bit emberessing , but it wasn't like I called the Hotel my Home."I am. It was actually pretty comfy."
"The offer stands. Where are you now? I could pick you up and show you around?"
"I just left my office, but we could meet at the big ben in five?"
