Maya
How is Mrs. Han dead? Why would the Neo Mafia shoot there?
"Maya?" I look in the direction of the voice, seeing Subin walk toward me. I smile, sighing a little.
"Hey, how are you?"
"Just have been busy trying not to cry," I sigh.
"What happened?"
"My boss, who I viewed as a mom figure, was um.. killed last night."
"Bakery shooting last night?" I nod, taking a deep breath.
"Do you work there?"
"Yeah, but now, it's closed and I have no income."
"You can find another job, I can help," Subin smiles.
"You will?" He nods. "You're the best."
"I try," he jokes, as I push him lightly, smiling. "See? Smiling already!"
"Hush," I try to hide my smile.
"Did I interrupt?" A voice booms throughout the rooftop courtyard. Looking toward the voice, Hongseok was staring at Subin and me, hands in his pockets and an unreadable look on his face.
"Hongseok, hi," I swallow what little saliva that was in my mouth.
"You're coming with me, I need to show you something," he nods towards the door, holding out his hand. I got up.
"I guess you can... I'll see you around, Binnie," I ruffle his hair, smiling gently and walking towards Hongseok.Hongseok
"I guess you can... I'll see you around, Binnie," she ruffled his hair with a smile. A ping in my chest happened to vibrate it when she did that. After walking toward me and the door, I pull her gently and shut the door. I trap her in my arms, her eyes going wide.
"I don't like what you did back there with Subin," I look her up and down.
"If you don't like it, then sue me," she pushes me back a little, starting to head down the stairs. "Just show me what you wanted to show me."
Feisty, I like it.Maya
We went down the stairs, then to the parking garage. A luxurious car parked by the elevator with the lights flashing was the only one on the level. I looked at Hongseok, a car key was in his hand. I nodded slightly, walking faster and opening the door. Hongseok makes his way to the other side, opening the door, and climbing in. I sit in the seat, closing the door.
"What the hell, Hongseok?" I chuckle dryly.
"What?"
"Just because you and I had sex once doesn't mean that we are an item. It was a drunken mistake that took place when the both of us were not in the right mindset," I sigh, looking the other way.
"Alright then," he says, barely audible while starting the car.The car was silent while we drive for an hour. The scenery changed immensely within one hour: from cityscapes to an almost nothingness but a select amount of trees.
"Hongseok, where are we?" I ask, eyes scanning the land.
"We are at our destination," he responds, as we turn down a road with gates in the front. The evergreen grass had led us through black wrought iron fences to a huge black and white mansion with a circle driveway.
"Wow." I was taken aback by the house, well, castle more like.
"You coming?" Hongseok stood with my door open, showing that I was so focused on this house instead of anything else, but how was I supposed to focus? The door had several stairs leading to it, Hongseok pulling out a set of keys on the way up the steps. He stuck the key for the house in the lock, turning it to unlock it, and lets me in, following close behind.
"Okay, I feel out of place here; why are we even here?"
"Hongseok, welcome back! This time, you've brought company too," A man comes out from an area of the house, greeting us.
"Maya, this is my best friend Hui, or Hoetaek, whichever one you want to call him," Hongseok introduces me.
"So this is the infamous Maya we have heard about?" He reaches for my hand, giving it a gentle kiss. Hongseok visibly flinched, I barely smirked. "Hongseok, you ready for the range?"
"Yeah, Maya, come with me," he walks in a different direction.
"Nice to meet you, Hui," I gently smile, then following Hongseok."Alright, here it is. We will be shooting today."
"Shooting? As in guns?" I looked around a little, biting the inside of my lip.
"Yeah? What else, paint balls?" Hongseok laughs dryly, grabbing two shotguns gently. "Take one."
I carefully take the gun, not wanting to hurt anyone in the case that it accidentally went off.
"Alright, now, remove the safety feature, like so," he showed me, even though I already knew how to do this. He just doesn't know.
"Great, now the target is there, point and shoot; then, to shoot again-"
I cut him off, shooting three times, reloading after each shot.
"Where the hell did you learn to do that?" Hui comes to me, shocked. I look at the target, seeing that I hit the chest of the man's picture.
"Thailand, I learned to protect myself," I smile a little, setting the gun and the safety feature on the table behind me. "I had to learn how to protect myself since I lived on my own. I live on my own now too, but don't own a gun. I'm trained in self defense, trained for about 10 years."
"Hongseok, come with me," Hui leads Hongseok to the next room.Hongseok
"Hongseok, she needs to be a part of our team," Hui states. "A shot that good has to be a part of our team."
"Are you sure? I don't want her life at risk like ours," I rub the back of my neck.
"Hongseok, I will personally make sure she stays safe whenever she is with us. I will make sure that she is protected by each member," Hui tries to bargain.
"I wasn't ready to reveal what we do, but if you want her to be a part of the team, it is necessary," I sigh, looking out the one-way window at the range, but she had exited the room.Maya
I exit the room, hoping to find a bathroom, but the mansion is so big, I eventually got lost. I walk a little way, peeking through different doors. The room I looked in first was a small library, so I walked in. In awe, I began to look at books to read or borrow. I need to ask Hui about borrowing a book or two. I find a book, flip to a random page, reading a bit, becoming entranced by the writing on the pages.
"Maya?" I hear Hongseok's voice calling for me, so I stand up, peeking from the room.
"Hello?" I respond, looking at Hongseok, book in hand.
"Hey, Hui and I need to talk to you," he grabbed my hand and brought me up a small staircase into a beautiful kitchen of marble countertops and blue-gray cabinets.
"You're going to want to sit down," Hui says, sitting down.
"Okay," I drag out the last syllable for a couple of seconds to myself, then sit down with him and Hongseok.
"So, remember when I said that I'm not a nice guy?""Because I'm not a nice guy, Maya," Hongseok whispers, being a few mere centimeters away from my face.
"What do you mean?"
"You'll find out eventually, just know that I don't want you hurt.""What about it? Are you associated with the Neo Mafia?"
"In a way."
"Wha..."
"We have our own mafia group: PTG Group, a lesser-known but equally as powerful group," Hui explains, in simple terms. "Neo Mafia is our enemy at the moment, so they have been watching us; however, being as though they're wanted, they won't be public until the crowd has died down."
"And after watching your target shooting and learning that you had self-defense training for a long period of time, we would like to offer you a position on our team. Our members are more than welcome to adding you to our group. With your expertise, we would make an unbeatable combination," Hui explains further. "You can of course say no, we would need to protect you from other mafia groups and would have to keep you quiet from anything being exposed to the media. Understandable?"
"Yes, give me a couple of minutes to think," I sigh, fully digesting the information and opportunity I have been presented with.
"Hey, Hui, can I get approval for the- Who is this chick?" A male walks over to the table a large paper in hand.
"Shinwon, this is our potential new recruit, Maya," Hui introduced me.
"New recruit? She doesn't look like she could hurt a fly," Shinwon grimaces at me, a look of denial crossing his face.
"You know what, Hui, I'll take that chance."
"Meaning?"
"I'll be a part of PTG Group."
