Her Fate — Hanai Gaiden

It was cold. Desolated in the broken outskirts of the village, the cemetery, she slowly walks from grave to grave.

The ocean of emotions deep in depth followed by waves of despair. The waters constantly tested her decision in leaving Konoha. After her aunt's murder at the hands of the darker side of Konoha, Tsunade had offered Hanai to leave and abandoned the shinobi life with her.

Not once did she ever feel safe in Konoha, conditioned to feel unsafe due to her heritage, but her aunt's believed that Konoha will be the place they can live a peaceful life. Now that was no longer possible, an empty home made her feel lonely, having to sleep with one eye open and a blade on her back made her heart sick.

She hadn't heard her aunt's voice in weeks, but her heart has had conversations with them every day. It was her first and will be the last visit. She went to the graveyard the second after she was released from the hospital this morning, and has been here since. She had brought two white carnations for them. Delicate fingers burn another incense stick and cleanse the night, the familiar scent stung her nostrils.

She was falling and the desire to leave this place grew, the tempting offer to abandon the life of a shinobi was at the tip of her heart. With her loved ones gone, she had lost faith in the idea of a peaceful life in Konoha. Cold disgusting seawater invaded her heart, so why was he here?

The blank, early sky was joined by a wide horizon. The new morning sky tickled the village, as Hanai felt the warmth of another, sitting right behind her. He didn't say a single thing, keeping his eyes and face away from the brown-skin girl.

She licked her lips, the wind slapping her face back to reality. "Why are you here, Kakashi?"

"The same reason you're here, Hanai."

Her white eyes gaze at her brown toes. A headspace is impossible to imagine unless you lost someone you thought you couldn't live without.  "Kakashi, you know..." She leaned back, pressing her back against his. "I killed my real family...it was an accident, but I still did it. Now my adopted family is gone, and everyone thinks it was me."

"Adopted?" Kakashi mumbled, not aware of this information.

        She nods, "Yeah, everyone died."

        "Died in the civil war?"

"A massacre." Hanai's lips tense, she never spoke of this with anyone, but now was her only chance. Her mind spins, she stands inside the hidden room in her heart, wondering if Kakashi would walk in. "People like me, like Sanyu-neesan were targeted. I had retaliated and killed my parents. They found me a few days after."

"So that's why you're leaving?" Kakashi asked, accepting her truth.

The edge of her lips curls softly, fully aware that he had figured it out. "It's part of it."

Losing her loved ones, caused her surroundings to turn upside down, falling into the depths of darkness. Unwanted, unloved, uncared for. Hanai's dream to earn the village's love and acceptance, no longer felt possible. All her effort and attention were put into the village, and she tried so damn hard for the village to love her as much as she loved them, but the sick reality is that Kohona will never love her. She wouldn't get her happy ending here.
