        There is darkness associated with ANBU missions, deception and killing are all part of it. Hanai and Kakashi have their own struggles to cope with the missions emotionally, but at a certain point, their hearts begin to beat for each other. 

        Hanai didn't mean to fall in love with Kakashi. It wasn't the plan she had for herself in Konoha, but she couldn't ignore the feelings any longer. Despite having her heart broken by all the despair that follows her, she decided that this love was worth the risk because she didn't know that love could feel this way. 

        It was so addicting, watching his eyes look at her as the best thing in the world. 

        Time spent with each other, felt like they were trying to fix each other. While she was busy putting his pieces back together, he was ripping apart her own. But by the time she realized it, it was too late. She wondered for months how his heart grew so cold, and then she remembered everything that Kakashi had gone through. His despair also followed him, and she reached the point where there was nothing left to do or say to save him. 

        And now they are here recovered from all of the pain, the disappointments, the losses, and the heartache. 

        A silence that seems eternal settles over the living room, as Hanai reads through the thick stack of documents. Her face is like stone, unmoving and strong. It holds all the information of the assignment—

        Assigned by Danzo Shimura, an elder of Konohagakure. Danzo is widely recognized as being one of the leading figures in the village's growth after the death of the Nidaime Hokage. Acting as Hiruzen's, the Sandaime Hokage, top intelligence advisor, and through his own unsanctioned actions, Danzo's willingness to take on the dark, but vital tasks of the village such as management of espionage and assassinations of high profile threats are crucial to the success of the village. He does this through ROOT, a sub-organization in the ANBU. 

        ROOT carries out missions that the leader, Danzo, believes would benefit Konoha. Because of its core views as "the unseen ones who support the great tree of Konoha from the depths of the earth," some of these missions are less than respectable, such as eliminating individuals that are considered potential threats to Konoha, despite not actually having done anything against the village. 

        People like Hanai, who despite being relentlessly loyal to Konoha, are distrusted due to her Ice-Release. 

Nullified by Tsunade, Outcome—Success

        Comprehension dawns on her face, and he starts to get closer. Her fingernail traces the white space at the bottom of the document. 

        "It was the only way the elders are going to accept Tsunade's decision in having you in the standard forces," Kakashi speaks, his knees touching her brown skin. 

        "There are no signatures though, it's not..." she holds her breath, eyes stuck at Kakashi. 

        "They are signing it in a few hours, Lady Tsunade wants you to bring the documents in." 

        "Oh—I..." The pressure starts to build inside her, like the pulse of a selfish wish. An honest, soft giggle echoes from her lungs, like a wicked child. She hates the man and laughs at Danzo's soon-to-be humiliation. Her alter ego is dark and hateful, but her heart is sincere and gentle. Her laugh lets the light in, freeing her from her troubles.
