Chapter 9 Aftermath

Dave's POV 

I have a bad feeling something is wrong. Anissa said she would call me before she went to bed. I waited to almost midnight then called her phone which was off. She never shuts that phone off. That phone is always connected to her and on, she sometimes avoids my calls, but it's always on. I wanted to call Emily, but I didn't want to disturb her or her boys so late at night. I sent a text to Anissa telling her to call me when she can. I figured I was overreacting a little, it is her first vacation away from me, so maybe it's normal to feel like something is off. I went to bed feeling uneasy, but told myself everything must be fine or Emily would of called me.

I woke up this morning still feeling bothered. I checked my phone but there was no call or message from Anissa. It was to early to call Emily, but I did try Anissa again. The phone went right to voicemail. Getting out of bed, I went into my home gym and worked out for about an hour. I jumped into the shower then got dressed. After making a hearty breakfast I wrote another text to Anissa 

Hey honey, it's dad. Give me a call, or shoot me a message please

I had a phone call interview for a local magazine that took up the rest of the morning. After hanging up with the editor, I again called Anissa. This time after my call went to voice mail, I called Emily. She also didn't answer but wrote me a text letting me know she was occupied but will call me back within the hour. I felt better that I had at least gotten through to someone.

I was reading a script for a movie I am going to be shooting soon, when my phone rang

Hello

Dave it's Emily

Thanks for calling back. I been feeling like something is off with Anissa 

Oh yeah, why?

She shut her phone off which is something she doesn't normally do

Dave that's probably because she was up so late last night

Oh, I didn't know she was

Yeah she called me around 2:00am, she sounded like she was half asleep. She was mumbling about Steve and how much she didn't like him. She said I should leave him, it was weird.

Did you ask her about it?

No, I figured she was either over tired or just fooling around

What is she doing now?

How would I know?

What do you mean, how would you know? She is with you isn't she?

Dave what are you talking about? She isn't coming here until tomorrow

Emily she hasn't been with me since I dropped her off at your house on Friday

I wasn't even here Friday, I was at a bunny concert with the boys. Anissa told me she would be getting here on Monday.

She was supposed to be spending two weeks with you

Yeah but I told her it was okay to go to the end of school year party

What party?

The one that you and her were heading back to Florida for

Okay Emily, something isn't right. I dropped Anissa off at your house Friday. I have not heard from here since Saturday morning, she is supposed to be with you

The last time I saw Anissa was Thursday afternoon when you picked her up from visiting with me

So where is she?
