It was so quiet.
The room was as silent as the colour white. The soft beeping sounds of machines made their notice every few minutes, but apart from that it was a void.
Compared to a few hours ago, this was peace. The sounds of a wailing newborn and an in-pain mother were no more. Both were now sound asleep, tucked into the world of dreams for now. Sugar plums and fluffy clouds were all that would be seen, as the exhaustion overtakes bodies.
Sleep would have to wait for you, however, as someone began to gentle nudge you awake. You could tell by the softness of the hands that it was your Harry. His hands were bare, all but one, from rings and it was a rare, and weird, sight to see. Normally he'd even sleep in his rings, but having placenta coat them wasn't something he exactly wanted.
"Lovie, hey? Darling? Wake up." He was soft in his words, not wanting to alarm you in your wake.
As you opened your eyes you had to squint a few times to make the image clear. The light was quite blinding, but only because you had just been asleep. Harry came into focus first, as always, and he couldn't help but smile at your sleepy face. You tell that the smile was full of pride and love.
"Where is she?" Was the first thing on your mind, even if Harry was the first thing you'd seen.
All you could think about was your tiny bundle of love. Your greatest achievement and largest love in your life. Your little sunflower - as Harry likes to call her. Born at 3:33 am, weighing 6 pounds, your angel Rosie was brought into the world. Although it was agonising pain for you, which almost made you go into theatre due to severe blood loss, you would do it all over again if it meant you got to hold Rosie in your arms.
Your little sunflower was born premature and so she was tinier than most babies. She was the most delicate and delicious creation you, and Harry agreed, had ever set your eyes on.
As soon as she was delivered she was brought to your arms, and as if by magic she calmed down immediately and softened her body in your hold. Harry watched you both in awe, crying at how strong you both were. He was in love with you both. He was actually a dad. His sunflower was here and he was completely in love. He was done for. Anything she ever wanted, he would give to her. Any time she needed him, he was going to be there. Any broken heart she suffered, he would be there to fix.
Rosie had Harry wrapped around her littlest finger and she didn't even know it.
"She's sleeping over there." Harry pointed towards the incubator that she was laying in, keeping her warm and comfortable as she slept like the angel she was born to be.
"Are you okay?" You wondered as to why he had woken you, taking your hand in his.
He stood protectively tall over you and and brushed your hair out of your face, where it had begun to stick to your forehead slightly. His other hand tight in yours, you'd never felt safer. Your fears of having him run away as soon as he saw your bundle of happiness had evaporated the minute you caught the tears run down his cheeks. He couldn't run. He was bound to you, both, forever and he was more than grateful to be.
"Yeah, lovie. Just the doctors said we can take her home tomorrow if we want, but they'd advise keeping her here just a little bit longer. It's up to us." Harry looked down at you lovingly. You couldn't help but stare into the eyes that had melted your heart all those years ago.
