Description - things turn for the worst on family night, no thanks to your daughters secret boyfriend
It was a Wednesday evening, which meant it was family night. Both of your kids were free of after-school clubs, Harry was never in the studio mid-week and you didn't work on a Wednesday which meant you all designated Wednesdays for family night. Whether you played board games, watched TV or films, had a family talent show or even roasted fake s'mores on the outside fire, it didn't matter as long as you all spent the quality evening together.
You and Harry promised each other that when you had kids you would make sure to have the best relationships with them, and dedicate all your time to loving and taking care of them. Over the years you've had to slowly let them become more independent, which neither you or Harry truly wanted to do, but they promised you that Wednesdays would always be reserved for you.
Tonight you were cooking dinner and then were planning on making s'mores; the fake ones though because unfortunately they don't sell the special crackers in the UK.
"Flynn?" You shout to your 18 year-old son from the bottom of the stairs.
"Yeah, mum?" You can barely hear his reply over his loud, bass music playing up stairs. If there was one thing you didn't understand it was how different Flynns' music taste was compared to his dad. Flynn was very much an avid listener of techno music, whereas Harry was all for the 70s/80s music.
"Dinner's ready." You call, before heading back in to the kitchen to carry the freshly served up plates in to the dining room.
You'd made homemade chicken strippers and chips, with the mandatory side of vegetables, because you knew you're family were fed up of your adventurous cooking. Last week your attempted a risotto but it honestly tasted like mud. The time before that you'd had a go at making paella, but you ended up giving everyone food poisoning from not cooking the shrimps right. So basic chicken and chips it was.
Harry was helping set out cutlery around the table, whilst you set the plates at the table in their designated spots. You had more vegetables on your plate compared to everyone else, because you knew how fussy your children were with them.
It didn't take long for Flynn to come trudging down the stairs, phone in hand.
"Flynn." Harry says. "No phones at the table pal." He says.
Flynn was your firstborn and was like Harry in so many ways. He looks exactly like him. Same magical green eyes. Same floppy, chocolate curls. Same shape of face. Same muscular build; thanks to Harry showing him how to work out effectively. Apart from music taste, they were the same person.
Your 15 year old daughter, Eve, was the complete opposite to her dad, but so much like you. She had your beautiful eyes. She had your cute nose and full lips. Her dimple was the only thing she took from her dad. You could tell by her kind heart that she was Harrys daughter though.
Both children were opposites to each other, but they couldn't be closer to each other. They teased each other, all the time, like siblings should, but they also looked out for and protected one another. Flynn liked playing the role of the protective older brother.
"Sorry dad." Flynn mumbles and stuffs his phone in to his pocket.
"How was school?" You asked him as you took a seat from where Harry had pulled it out for you, like the gentleman he is. Even after 22 years of being together he never failed to surprise you with his random acts of kindness.
"Boring as per." He moaned, making you chuckle. He was as much of a dramatic queen as his dad. "Mr Cole made me answer one of the toughest questions on the board, just because he thought I wasn't paying attention." He rolled his eyes.
