Description - it's Harry's birthday and you've planned a surprise for him but you end up not being able to make it.

It was Harry's birthday today and you had planned a huge surprise meal for him.

All of his friends, family and even neighbours were going to be there to help him celebrate. Louis has helped you a lot, with the planning. Louis argued that he knew all the best places to get decorations and food from - so you left him to that bit. You had the horrible job of deciding who got to come to the party, and who didn't. You'd worked double overtime the past couple of weeks, in the hospital, in order to rack in as much money as possible to afford all of this. Louis was adamant he was going to get the best deals and discounts for you, however Liam said that that was putting a bit too much trust in him.

Harry was currently out with his mum and Gemma, for brunch. Anne wanted some time with Harry before the meal this evening and you completely understood. It actually gave you the perfect opportunity to move decorations from your garage, where they'd been stored this past week, to this evening's venue. Louis helped you and Niall said he was going to swing by the venue later to help set up.

Just as you were carrying the last box up the stairs, from your car into the venue, your phone started to ring. You set the box down and took out your phone.

"Hello?" You asked, not recognising the number.

"Hi Y/N it's Dr Osborne." He was your boss at work. You worked in the A&E department in your local hospital. You had been working there for about 4 years now. "I'm sorry to disturb you on your day off, but it's completely slammed in here right now. Two of my junior doctors aren't in and there's no one here that's qualified enough to preform medical procedures. Please Y/N I know I can trust you. Could you please come in? It'll only be until it all calms down."

As much as you wanted to, you found it very hard to say no to people. As much as you wanted to be there with Harry tonight, there were people's lives, quite literally, at stake in hospital. Harry would have loads of family and friends there tonight and you thought you not being there wouldn't really make a difference.

"Yeah, that's fine, no worries. I'll be in as soon as possible." Dr Osborne thanked you and then hung up. You picked the box back up and headed into the venue. Each of the boys had been assigned their own tasks. Louis and Niall were starting to put some bunting up around the room, Liam was sat blowing up balloons and Zayn was currently collecting the cake. The boys looked like they had everything under control.

"Lou?" You asked as you set the box, full of cloths for the tables, on the floor.

"Yeah love? " He asked, still concentrating on the bunting.

"Work have called me in. I need to go in." You said, as you slipped your hands into the back pockets of your jeans. You chewed the inside of your mouth, anxious for his reply.

"Oh, okay love. When will you be back? " He said, handing the bunting to Niall. All the boys were listening to your conversation now.

"I'm not sure Lou. If I don't make it this evening will you make sure H has a really good evening for me." Lou looked flustered - like he didn't know what to say. Even though you weren't trying to show it, you were devastated that you couldn't be there for your boyfriend on his birthday.

"Of course we will Y/N/N." Liam spoke up, coming over to give you a hug. Liam knew that you'd be feeling like a shitty girlfriend, so the hug was a reminder to you that you weren't. Louis and Niall came and gave you a hug too. You cleared your throat because you could feel yourself starting to well up.

"Look I know I'm a terrible girlfriend for doing this to H, but the hospital desperately need me right now." You looked at your watch before they could respond and shot off.
