"Miss, we're going to have to ask you to leave." The waitress asks, not for the first time tonight.
"Please. I know he'll be here. He's just late." I try reasoning, my eyes tearing up.
"Ma'am. I'm sorry. You have to leave." She says, an apologetic expression on.
I nod, starting to pack my purse and put on my jacket.
"WAIT!"
Both the waiter and I look up to see a dirty-blonde man, running to the table.
"Wait. Sorry I'm late babe, I was stuck in traffic." The man says.
I look at him confused. Who was this?
The waiter walks away, going to grab menu's for us both.
"I'm Charlie. Just go with it, yeah? Whoever didn't show up was a dick." He explains in a soft, quiet, tone.
I nod, a wide smile replacing my frown.
"I'm Y/n." I introduce, shaking his hand. "And yeah, he is a dick." I agree.
"Well, I'm sorry you didn't get to go on a date with your boyfriend." He apologized, an sad grin on his face.
"It's okay. It's not the first time it's not the first time it's happened." I say, telling the man I just met-- charlie-- about my relationship problems.
"He doesn't sound like such a nice guy." He says, his grin turning into a frown.
I nod, looking at my fidgeting fingers that layed in my lap.
We sat in silence until the waitress came back and placed menus infront of us. I pick the menu up, scanning my eyes over the paper. I look up to Charlie, seeing half of his face sticking over the menu.
He was honestly cute. His glasses sat on the bridge of his nose, accentuating the color of his eyes. His hair fell across his forehead, sitting perfectly, framing his face.
He was cute when he focused. His eyebrows slightly downturned, and his eyes flit across the words on the papers.
"What're you going to get?" He asks, snapping me out of my small staring session. I look at the menu again, deciding upon a meal.
"Uh- probably the veggie burger. Even if it's veggie, it sounds pretty good." I explain.
He nods, looking at me. "I might get the same." He says.
The waitress comes back and asks if we're ready yet.
"Uh yes. We'll both have the veggie burger." He answers for both of us.
The waitress nods and walks away, writing our orders down.
We talk about what our lives are like. I tell him I was planning to break up with my boyfriend for a while, and that he was pretty much never around.
"Well, You should. He's a bitch for ghosting you several times." Charlie says, trying to reason with you.
I nod, and the waitress soon comes over with our food.
We eat and talk, until we look out the window and see it's completely dark out. We call the waitress over for our check, and she hands is the small slip.
"I'll pay." I say, reaching for the check.
Before i could even put a finger on it, Charlie grabs it from under my grasp.
"Nope. I'm paying. It's the chivalrous thing to do." He explains, signing the check. The waitress takes the check and his debit card, and walks to confirm the payment.
"You didn't have to. Pay or stay." I say. Sincerely thanking him. "Thank you so much."
"It's no biggie" he says with a smile.
The waitress comes back and hands him his card back. She wishes us a great rest of our night, and we leave.
"I seriously can't thank you enough, Charlie. Thank you." I say.
"You could give me your phone number." He says suave-ly, with a wide grin.
"Fine." I take his phone, and add my number into his contacts.
Y/n 👶 🔫😊
"what a great string of emojis." Charlie compliments.
"I know, right?" I laugh, giving him his phone back.
"Tonight was nice." Charlie says, looking toward his shoes.
"It was." I confirm.
"Maybe we could do it again sometime? Once you break up with your boyfriend, I mean." He says, proposing another date.
"Absolutely. I'll see you soon, Charlie." I say, going in for a hug.
"I'll see you later." He says, taking me in his arms. We stand there, taking in eachother's presence for a minute
"Bye Charlie." I pull away, waving on the way to my car. I see him wave, and I turn, completely focused on getting into my car.
That was nice.
FIN.
