Cole's POV
My hands were calloused from swinging an axe around every day. I was good at my job. But these people around me looked up to me, expecting me to save them from our corrupt government. I'm not a hero any more. As much as I try to fit in, I always end up being looked to.
It was around six thirty AM. The morning air was crisp and cool. I had my axe resting on my shoulder. I took a deep breath and walked to a tree. I swung my axe at the tree then retrieved it.
"Cole," I heard someone say. I looked to my sides, then behind me. Nobody was around me.
I swung my axe again.
"Cole," the voice said again. I looked around again. I looked up.
"Lloyd?" I said quietly. Lloyd was standing on a tree branch above me.
Lloyd jumped down from the tree.
"What are you doing here?" I asked.
"I'm here for you," Lloyd said.
"Me?" I asked. "What do you want?"
"We need you back in the team," he said.
I tilted my head.
"Please," Lloyd said.
"Lloyd, I-" I couldn't finish. "I'm sorry."
Lloyd saddened.
"I can't go back," I said. "Okay, listen. I'm tired, Lloyd. Tired of Serpentine, tired of Nindroids, tired of... Jay."
"Please," Lloyd begged. "We need you. I need you."
"Sorry, Green Machine," I shrugged. "This is my life now."
Lloyd shook is head.
"I'm sorry," I said. "I need to get back to work."
"Cole," Lloyd said. "Our team will be no more if we don't do something. What would Zane want us to do?"
"Zane isn't here," I spat.
Lloyd sighed, silently.
"Like I said, I don't want to fight anymore," I said.
"But who will protect all of them," Lloyd gestured to the other workers.
I looked at the other people. I thought about what Lloyd said. What would Zane want?
"Please come back," Lloyd pleaded.
I sighed. "Fine."
Lloyd's face brightened.
"But I'm only doing this for Zane," I said.
