(Y/n)'s POV:
I immediately noticed Billy looked like shit when he came to pick me up. He had dark circles under his eyes, his hair was unkempt, and he was really pale. I just assumed he was hungover and didn't press the subject, knowing how bitchy he got when he was hungover, even though he liked to be babied when he was away from prying eyes.
He looked okay enough the few times I saw him at school. Still quite pale, but he seemed to be socializing just fine, which he couldn't usually do when he was hungover. I kept an eye on him anyway, having the gut feeling something wasn't quite right.
When school was over, I met Billy in our usual spot and we walked to his blue Camaro together. He was walking kind of unsteady so I placed a gentle arm around his waist, he didn't say anything so I assumed it was fine. We got into the car and pulled out of the lot, making it to about a mile before Billy's house when he started looking really bad. He was extremely pale, almost like he had a green tinge to his skin and he was sweating bullets.
Billy gripped the steering wheel tightly as a harsh wave of nausea crashed through his gut. He managed to continue driving for another minute before abruptly pulling over to the side of the road, putting the car in park and throwing open the door. He was leaning way too far out of the car, if his seatbelt wasn't there I was certain he would go crashing onto the ground below.
He retched harshly, bringing up a wave of sick onto the grass. I gently rubbed his upper back while holding his long hair back as another wave of vomit fell into the grass. Clearly, I was correct to suspect something was wrong earlier. I continued rubbing his back and whispered comforting things to him as he continued to bring up wave after wave of sick. I knew Susan always made him eat a big breakfast but damn.
Once he was finally done, he swiped his hand over his mouth, spitting one more time before slamming the car door shut. "You sure you don't want me to drive the rest of the way?" He shook his head, saying it would make him feel worse if he was just riding. Thankfully, it was a smooth ride for the few minutes back to Billy's house. I carefully helped him into the house, feeling his raging fever through his clothes.
I was very happy his house was only one floor as I slowly led him to his room. I gently pushed him down on the bed, letting him get comfortable in the blankets before turning around towards the bathroom. I grabbed a cold rag and glass of water as well as the bathroom trash bin then returned to Billy. I set the trash bin on the floor next to his bed and handed him the glass of water. Since he had moved to sit up, I would put the cloth on his forehead later when he laid back down.
He took a few sips of the cool liquid then shakily set it down on the table right beside his bed. When he laid down I put the cold rag on his sweaty forehead, happy when he sighed in content at the feeling. I gently brushed my fingertips along his hair, and when I didn't get pushed away I moved to comb my fingers through it. It didn't take long for Billy's exhausted body to fall into unconsciousness.
He stayed asleep for another 45 minutes before I heard a low groan, shifting my gaze to Billy I saw his eyes heavily crack open. "Hey, how ya feeling?" I question softly, gently stroking his sweaty forehead.
"Like shit, I'm still really nauseous and the whole room is spinning." I continued petting his forehead, sighing sympathetically at his words.
"Do you think you're gonna puke?" I question again in the same soft voice. He just shrugs, throwing an arm over his sore eyes. I bring the trash can closer just in case and move to fun my fingers through his hair since his arm was now covering his forehead. I heard him let out a very un-Billy like whine then quickly grabbed the trash can that I had thankfully brought closer.
He retched loudly, only saliva dribbled into the bin. His stomach contracted harshly, causing Billy to whine again, but still, nothing came up. I put his hair into a little ponytail this time so I had both hands free. I used one hand to gently rub Billy's back as he continued to lurch over the bin, and then the other to carefully rub his violently angry stomach.
The ministrations worked for a little bit, but his stomach won in the end. The next heave sends a wave of sick into the bin with a hollow splat. Of course right when Billy started to get sick, I heard the lock click on the front door and Neil, Susan, and Max came home. I quickly got up and shut the door, turning on the radio to muffle the sounds of Billy getting sick then returned back to his side.
I continued rubbing his back as he finished getting sick, spitting a few times into the bin then handing it back to me. I set it on the floor, then let Billy lean into my chest, his eyelids were drooping so I could tell he was getting sleepy again. I carefully laid him down on the bed and put the cold cloth back on his forehead. Once I was certain he was asleep, I grabbed the sick filled bin and exited his room, running into Max as I was headed to the bathroom. "Ew, gross (Y/n) why do you have a bucket of barf?" She questioned, a grimace stretching over her face.
"Uh well don't let Neil find out but Billy's sick, stomach flu or something, he's thrown up twice now since we got out of school." She nodded at my request, a look of worry crossing her face upon hearing of her step-brother's condition. "He's resting in his room right now if you wanna go check on him while I empty this." She gave me another nod then beelined for Billy's room. Even if they didn't act like it, they really cared for each other.
I made quick work of the sick, returning to the siblings with a now clean bin. Billy was still asleep and Max had taken over my chair that I moved beside his bed, she was gently stroking her sick brother's cheek. I stood in the doorway for a minute, admiring the rare sight then walked into the room. I placed the bin at Billy's bedside again then moved to the now empty chair as Max swiftly left the room. I trusted her to keep our little secret safe. Hopefully, Billy got better before Neil found out tho and if not, I was ready to protecc.
