Two weeks had flown by and my one-on-one training meetings with teen vogue was over. The last day was spent doing pretty much nothing. My first photoshoot for the magazine had been booked and i'd be lying if i said i wasn't scared shitless. Less than 18 hours ago, Jaden and I had flown in to New York and none of us had had any sleep so far.
I stared at my reflection in the spotlight mirror opposite me. I was sat in a chair as my favorite stylist also my favorite person at work (apart from Kendall) did my hair. Dora Gonzales. THE Dora Gonzales. She looked even better in real life..and younger. She was a woman of wise words with a wise look to finish her ensemble. She had just turned 50 and hardly looked it. In fact, she had a few grey hairs but rather than covering it up with the use of chemicals, she made one of her many favourite quotes "grey headedness is in a crown of beauty when it is found in the way of righteousness." Apparently, it was from the bible. With her career, Dora was a legend. Throughout the course of her life, she had worked with other big industries such as armani exchange and victorias secrets.
"So you'll be back in a week?" She said, turning off the blowdrier and grabbing a bottle of leave-in conditioner.
"For sure. Im nervous already."
"I'll give you the same advice i always give you, chica..." She massaged the liquid into my hair.
"Show them why they chose you..." We both said at the same time and then suddenly bursting into laughter.
"You know me." She parted my hair into four sections. "So how's that handsome man of yours doing?"
"...yeah, hes good."
"Is he coming tonight?" Ah yes, the fashion show...
"What?" I looked around awkwardly. As Dora (as she ordered me to call her that instead of a politely formal name) opened her mouth to speak, Peter from the set team walked in with his walky talky in his back pocket and approached us with his work ipad.
"Miss Clark. Just to confirm, will we be entertaining a plus one tonight?"
"I didnt know i was permitted a plus one." I answered awkwardly. It was weird how Jaden and I coincidentally had to be in new york around the same time. He had stuff to do for his upcoming movie and i had the New York fashion week to attend.
"You certainly are. Front row." He smiled.
"Hold up, let me call him."
Grabbing my phone from the dress table, i got Jaden's number on speed dial.
"Hey baby." Was all he said.
"Hey, you know tonight's fashion show?"
"Yeah? ..."
"You can come after all." I smiled to myself.
"Really?"
"Yeah. I just found out, im meant to have a plus one."
"And now you do." He chuckled.
"Alright. I'll see you later."
"Kisses" he answered in a high pitched stereotypically gay voice, making me cackle in laughter.
"Is that a go?" Peter cocked his head to the side, awaiting an answer.
"Yes it is."
"Mr Smith, right?" He tapped into his ipad.
"Yes. Thankyou."
"No problem." And he exited swiftly.
