Cameron didn't turn up to work then next week, or the week after that, nor the week after that either which made the team all panic, but strangely they noticed Hotch seemed calm- too calm.
"For a man who made tried to break down her door when she left a park early, he's awfully relaxed at her being gone for almost three weeks" Rossi said as the team started a day of paper work, of which they were quite far behind on now that Cameron wasn't there to do it for them anymore.
"I'm really worried about her- she won't answer her calls, Zach hasn't seen her leave or enter her apartment in weeks, something is wrong" Morgan said as he leg shook anxiously like it had been when she didn't show up after a week.
"I tried to file a missing person's report but Hotch wouldn't let me" Reid shook his head, full of panic and coffee- already on his 5th of the morning since he hadn't been sleeping.
"I know that case with the Max Jortin kid might have messed her up a bit but she wouldn't just leave and not tell us because of that, right?" Rossi shook his head.
"Do you... do you think she sent the letter? Do you think... do you think that she was taken back?" Garcia spoke quietly as she handed out the files.
It was a question they had all thought of, a question they were all dreading to ask but no one had let themselves until now.
"No" Morgan shook his head decisively, almost trying to convince himself, "no, she wouldn't do that, Hotch wouldn't let her do that, he wouldn't be so calm if she was over there- if she had been taken back."
"Why not? He's never been exactly nice to her" Emily shrugged.
"That doesn't mean he wants her to go back to her abuser and kidnapper Emily" Morgan snapped and stood up, he couldn't sit around anymore.
"Hotch-" He stormed into Hotch's office but he was on the phone and held up a hand to him.
"I don't care if you're on the phone- I'm going to find Cameron, I don't care how long it takes, I will find her because I care about her" Morgan spat, making Hotch pause before ending his call.
"Like I told you before, she'll be back" he spoke simply.
"How do you know that?!" Morgan couldn't help yelling.
"Because I have someone following her."
Morgan paused, "you do?"
Hotch nodded, "they give me updates every other day, I should be getting one in the next hour."
"Why didn't you... why didn't you tell us?" Morgan shook his head before Hotch sighed.
"Because I'm not meant to be doing this Morgan. I'm not meant to be caring about her enough to do this, I'm not meant to be filling out reports as her to make Strauss think she's still here but I am. And as much as I trust you all, someone did tell Strauss about Cameron and I. Cameron was certain that it wasn't you- I can't risk it with the others. Strauss will send her back, she'll find any excuse to fire her- I will not risk that."
Morgan took a breath, "so she is okay? She's not... he didn't get her?"
Hotch shook his head, "my contact is making sure she is okay, he interrupted the mailing system and took the letter she sent before it got away."
Morgan's eyes widened, "wait- so she did send it?"
Hotch nodded with a sombre expression, "I didn't think she would either, but... she tried to."
