"This isn't good, this isn't good at all" Cameron muttered under her breath as she read the printed out email; it was easier this way after she got into an almost comical argument with the iPad and Garcia just printed off her emails for her now.
"Okay this part isn't too bad" she said with a hint of her usual hope before continuing to read, "oh never mind- it's bad."
She looked up at the team who were now outside her office door after Garcia handed her the email memo from the head of the FBI.
"So... what does it say?" Morgan prompted, all of them waiting in anticipation for the thing they had been waiting to hear for weeks like it was a life or death situation.
"I'm really sorry guys" she sighed, "we have to work next week."
"God damn it" Morgan shook his head.
"Well, there goes my scotch and fireplace plans" Rossi sighed.
"It's literally Christmas next week though, surely they can't do that" JJ was already texting Will to let him know.
"With all the bad publicity and the cases lately, it seems like the BAU were one of three picked to work next week so the other units can take Christmas off- we're going to be... uh oh" she continued to read.
"What is it?" Hotch asked.
"It seems everyone is going to be split up and merged with other units."
"What?!" Emily exclaimed, "that's not fair!"
"So I have to work on Christmas day with strangers in a unit that isn't even my job? Great, just how I wanted to spend my Christmas" Morgan rolled his eyes and left to cancel his plane ticket to Chicago. JJ left to call Will, Reid left to call his mom and Emily stepped out to discreetly message Amanda who she had secretly been seeing on the down low.
"So who are we being split up and merged with?" Hotch asked, trying to hide his frustration since he knew Cameron didn't like delivering bad news and wouldn't be feeling great after the teams reactions, taking a seat in the armchair next to Cameron's desk as she annotated the email print out.
"It seems that was meant to be Cruz's decision but he's managed to get two weeks at Christmas off so-"
"Wait, Cruz isn't working?" Rossi asked, she shook her head, "so you have to do his job too?"
"I guess so" she sighed and continued writing.
"That's not fair Cameron, you deserve the Christmas break off" Hotch said with certainty, very annoyed at Cruz- he was not his biggest fan given how much he slacked off with work but got all the credit for it, acting like he was Cameron's boss to the higher ups when she did all of the work- not to mention how he had tried to hit on Cameron before that Hotch often hid a glare at him for given how he was trying to work on his jealousy issues.
"Everyone deserves Christmas break off" Cameron corrected.
"Yeah kid but you most of all, you've dealt with a lot lately" Rossi walked over and noticed her annotating with her left hand in English and then writing notes for herself in her right hand in Russian to understand it, presumably trying to translate it to understand it more.
"I'll go talk to my higher ups and try to get them to at least post-pone the cases and keep you together in the same unit for the Christmas hours so Aaron will be able to send you home early if there isn't a case" she checked the time on her phone, "I have to go drop off these files and then have two meetings before that of Cruz's that I need to figure out what they're about first but I'll let you guys know as soon as I do-"
