Mitch Rapp POV
"Hey Stan, Henry called saying the last time anyone saw Conan was a couple days ago he was leaving work." I shout walking around aimlessly looking for the man
"Who's Conan?" He shouts back
"The 'Little Wolf' I was thinking we could go to his work place."
"Yeah, you go ahead I still got paper work to fill out. Be careful kid." He yells just before I close the door.
Driving to the ridiculous Jones Company, like it doesn't have to be such a big building
Walking up to the counter I see a woman about mid 30s staring at the computer in front, standing right in front of the woman she still doesn't see me, clearing my throat she looks up
"Um hello?"
"Hi, is it possible for me to speak with your manager?"
"Sorry hun, you can only go up if you have an appointment."
"Its about Conan."
"Yeah, sorry hun but no one that works here is called Conan, look hun like I said you can't go up."
Instead of continuing this argument I pull out my badge, she looks up then grabbing the hotel phone.
"Hi Sir, a man from the CIA is here to speak to you...about Conan...I told him that sir but- ...yes Sir." Looking back up to me she speaks again "you can go up, top floor, elevators down the hall to the left." She says before sitting back down. How nice.
Trailing in the direction she said I wait for the elevator. A good ten minutes later I'm finally outside the new managers door, knocking on the door, I wait till a voice yelling saying I could enter.
"What do I owe the pleasure of having a CIA agent in my building." He laughs standing up making his way to me "never thought I'd have a CIA Agent in the building, I mean I get police but not CIA. It must be something serious, aye" Shaking my hand, signaling me to sit
"I'm hoping you could answer some questions I have."
"Of course, ask away." He sits going all seriously
"When was the last time you've seen this man?" I ask showing him the pic I have
"Ohh you mean James." He stopped to think before speaking again "He stopped coming to work so we all assumed he quiet, he's worked here for a good five years now, why do you ask?"
"Just that no one has seen him for a while, his friends have been worried." I explain
"I'm sorry I don't know a lot about him but if you would like I can talk to my boss about it as I heard the he and James have a good friendship outside of work or I can give his email."
"If that's possible I'll send his email please, and if you have any more information, you can contact me here." I placed the card with the CIA number on it on the desk.
"Will do, any more questions?"
"Umm yes actually, do you know where James lives?"
He quickly writes down the address for me and we both say our goodbyes. Walking out of the building I call Stan.
"Hey Stan, got an address I'll be heading over to check it out."
"Be careful Mitch, we don't know what could be there." He says quickly hanging up.
Weird but I guess that's Stan.
Walking around the back of the house I look for an open window, although all windows are closed, and curtains are closed too. I walk round the back breaking the window with my elbow, climbing through the house is dark and small.
There are pills on the table in the living room with a few other things related to drugs going upstairs I slowly making my way into the only room in the house.
Looking around there's dust, the bed hasn't been touch for what seems like weeks and clothes are everywhere like someone has been here already or he rushed out.
Looking into the wardrobe I spot a safe hidden in the back on the floor hidden by clothes, grabbing the box I put on the bed, unlucky me it had to be one with a number code.
"You need help?" Someone says making spin around quickly aiming the gun straight at them
Looking over the person I see it's Skyler learning on the door frame, smirking.
"What do you want" I spit out
"Just looking around, just passing through the neighborhood and saw your car, and I know for sure you don't live in a shit hole so I'm wondering what are you doing here." She makes her way in my direction looking at the safe.
"Its none of your concern" I turned to the box
"Its a waste of time." She says her breath fanning my neck, letting me know she is closer than before, deciding to ignore her I keep guessing the code not wanting to go looking around the room to look for it
"Rapp, I'm not lying there's nothing in there, I don't lie because I don't fear anyone. You only lie when you're afraid."
Spinning on my heel I grip her neck not enough to stop her breathing but enough to show her I won't believe the bullshit that she speaks. Leaning down to her height looking straight into her eyes I speak up.
"What the fuck do you want, I'm this close to killing you and don't think I won't because I will."
"I'll help you if you help me, it won't be hard I only need backup on this little mission I have."
"Tell me first what happened to 'The Little Wolf' because no one seems to know where he is, except you."
"He's dead." She simply states
"What?"
"I found his body, so I buried him, I wanted information, but I guess someone already beat me to it."
Someone is after the same thing as us
"So will you help?" She asks
If I help, I can get more information and get to know more about here because things are not adding up.
That's not the only reason, is it? Yes, yes, it is. Nope now you're lying to yourself and that's okay. I'm not lying.
Oh, come on Mitch you and I both know you like her. Snapping out my thoughts I give her an answer"Fine when do we leave"
"We'll leave now, lets go you can just tell Stan you got a lead on Conan." She turns walking out the room
"Come on Rapp we got places to be and places to go." She calls
Following the girl outside she's already waiting in the car for me
"Where are we going?" I huff out, not liking the idea of going behind Stan and Irene's back but this can help our mission"Airport...heading back to New York, meeting an old friend of somewhat." Speeding down the highway she looks over "what's on your mind?"
I look over to see her glancing my way "Nothing." And returning her gaze back to the road. Me doing the same
"Now, Now Rapp I can tell when something's on your mind, you have this face, like you're thinking hard about something important." She says it like she means it, but you never know with her.
She is beautiful and looks like an angel but then again you cannot trust everything you see.
She is just not trustworthy.
