[Time skip of a few weeks]
{Sonny's p.o.v.}
I stare at my prey, focusing in on it's scent. I wag my haunches, and pounce! I pin the squirrel down with my claws and give a swift bite to the neck, killing it instantly. I glance around and start eating. Once I'm done, I bury the bones and lick my claws clean.
I lift my head up and breath in, the scents of the forest dancing on my tongue. I climb up the nearest tree all the way to the top. I look out on the horizon and see the I once called home, probably a few days journey from here. A gust of wind rocks the tree and blows my short hair in my face. Once I had made it into the forest, my long hair would get tangled in brambles and bushes, just troublesome to keep. So I used a sharp stone to cut it to shoulder length, much easier to handle in the wild.
I sigh and lean against the trunk, remembering my life as a human. I cherished my long hair and would spend my free time brushing through it, one of the few calm moments in my human life.
Now as a mutant, alone in the wild, I had many more of those moments. The forest is so quiet and peaceful, something I really needed after all the crazy things that happened in the city. The city...where the turtles live...
I shook my head, and jumped down from the tree. This is my home now, but...I can't leave the city out of sight. Everywhere I travel, I always make sure the city is still on the horizon. I came out here to become wild, to let go, but I just can't.
Out here, I've honed my senses, my instincts, trained myself to become a real wild cat. But when I've established a shelter, found a water source, filled my hunger, I go back to thinking of my old life.
Out here, I'm not Sonny. Sonny was weak and scared, now I'm strong and brave! I am free!
...
But I'm also lonely. Sonny was always alone, no one loved her, she had no one to turn to. That's still the case out here. Out here, I'm truely alone.
But who am I?
I'm still Sonny, but I'm also wild. Is there a harmony between the two? I don't know, I've gone crazy ever since I regained my memories. Before, I was so happy, I had a family. Can I go back to that? What if...
No, I can't...
But...
Maybe it'd work...
No, it's too dangerous...
But then again, what kind of life is this? I'm only lonely because I know what it's like to not be alone. If I forget, I wouldn't be lonely. The only way to make sure I forget, is to mutate again!
That's what I'll do then. I'll go back to the city to get some mutagen, then come back out here so I can live a life where I am no longer burdened with sad memories.
[A few days later]
I'm at the edge of the city, the bad neighborhoods. I'm standing on the roof of an abandoned building, looking up at the skyscrapers ahead. I take a deep breath and almost choke on the stench of smoke, oil, and decay. I cough, holding my throat, trying to get the horrible taste it left out of my mouth. Well this is starting out great!
After the breathing fresh clean air for a long time, I'm going to have to get used to this, but I'm not staying here long. Three days at the most, just get the mutagen and get out.
My throat is burning after my coughing fit so I start on my way to search for a source of water. I lift my nose in the air and take a few quick sniffs to try to catch the scent of running water. Instead, I smell rain in the air.
Thunder booms in the distant and it starts drizzling. Great, just great.
I start running, jumping from roof to roof. The rain soon starts pouring as more thunder sounds, getting louder each time. My fur is drenched and clinging to my body! Chills run through me as the rain pounds on my back as I run. On the bright side, I'm not thristy anymore!
I glance around, searching for shelter, when my eyes land on a manhole cover. I stop and stare at it, debating weather or not I should go just yet. Lightening flashed and thunder followed a second after! My back arched in fear and I jumped down to the ground, landing next to the manhole. My ears were ringing as I struggled to pull it to the side. The rain came down even harder as I finally got it to move! Another flash of lightening and I was down into the sewers. I covered my ears as the crash of thunder echoed throughout the maze of sewer tunnels.
My head was pounding as I quickly pulled the heavy disk back over the hole. I stood there in the darkness, panting, and dripping wet. I listened to the sound of the rain hitting against the metal covering.
Once I caught my breath, I wrapped my arms around myself and started slowly walking deeper into the maze. It was so cold down here, my teeth were chattering and my legs were shakey as I shivered from the freezing cold. Step by shaking step, I made my way to the lair.
