Part 1
Third Person POV
He screamed. A man, but screamed. Any man-most men-would. At least a yelp when they see a girl holding a flashlight under her chin, smiling creepily, as the light illuminated her whole face in darkness. The sun had started to rise but the almost darkness lingered. He had just woken up by his mother and ordered to get the milk from the cow. Someone had requested it early. Rubbing his eyes, half asleep, he went into the hall (living room) planning to turn the lights on. But rather to be invited by what he thought was a ghost, sitting on a sofa with the flashlight at her face. He stumbled and screamed.
She laughed, ripples of them tumbling out, covering her mouth. She laughed out loud not caring that she was a girl.
His mom ran in a little late but yelling, "Endhayi? Endhayi?"
[What happened? What happened?]
Harsha, the "ghost" held up her hand and moved it side to side gesturing no, still laughing and unable to hold it.
She finally managed to reply, "Nothing. Just scared him, that's all."Shiva blinked, walked out to get the milk, handed it to her and plotted to get her back.
————————————————————————
She lifted the little tin of milk dropped at her grandmother's house. Her cousins and their family had come for vacation, 2 months. Harsha would have come for vacations too but she's staying here now, not going back to America. Or not until things have settled with her Dad's job. Until then, she and her brother will be attending school in India after Onam break.
She dropped the tin inside the kitchen where the women were cooking and started to walk out when her aunt asked,
"Ithentanu? Palil korochokae vellam kalakunathu ariam pakshae ithu vellam mathram annalo." [What is this? We know that they mix water in milk but this is only water.]
My other aunt and mom came to inspect.
"Harsha, go and ask them for milk," my mom said in Malayalam.
Harsha took the can and headed out to his house. Mentally thinking what could be waiting for her. After all she had just scared Shiva two days ago.
She went into the yard but the front door was locked. Confused, she headed to the back.
A bucket of waste water hit her face.
[Near my grandmas house they usually throw the waste water or other water outside near the trees]
It smelled awful, bits of waste clung to her clothes. She gagged a little to herself.A pitiful hiss followed by a series of tsk-tsk came before her, from the guy that had screamed at her sight a few days ago.
Shiva stood there smiling at the picture she made, pleased with himself.A/N: Originally, this book was for my satisfaction, I just wanted to record it somewhere. But at the same time I really wanted to share it with others. Part of me wanted to create a different story from than usual and experiment with it. Which I should add, this book is really an experiment, I just want to see how it goes.
