Vic was waiting just outside the nurses station, hurrying towards Gerard when he re-entered the hallway.
"Hey! Do you wanna hang some stuff up now?" He waggled the bin that contained Gerard's art stuff in the air as he spoke. A heavy looking tape dispenser sat precariously atop it.
All Gerard wanted to do was sleep, but he forced a smile onto his face since Vic seemed so genuinely excited to help.
"Yeah sure, that'd be great!"As the two made their way back to Gerard's room, a thought occurred to him. "Hey have you seen Frank today? Like, since breakfast I mean? I tried to find him but I couldn't find his room..."
Vic gave him a confused look, which changed to mild pity as he seemed to recall the events of the morning. "I saw him in the dayroom while you were sleeping, but he's room 21, if you're ever looking for him."
Damn so I missed him because I was sleeping? Great, I'm sure he's totally not going to be pissed about that.
"Thanks." He offered to Vic, following him into the room.
Vic kept hold of the tape dispenser, from the look of it he'd taken it from the nurses station and Gerard was pretty sure he shouldn't have done that. He made a mental note not to mention it to anyone as he began rifling through the loose pages he'd had initially.
They'd hung up two pages, and were arguing about whether a third was straight or not before placing the last piece of tape when a third opinion entered the mix.
"You shouldn't hang them all on one wall like that." Frank interjected from the doorway, "Spread it out a bit, you've got lots of space."
"Good idea!" Vic called, taking Gerard's drawing of the Skeletal Girls and moving to hang it on the adjacent wall.
Gerard stood frozen staring at Frank, waiting for him to scream at him, or punch him, maybe even run away, but Frank just stood in the doorway scuffing the toe of his sneaker against the floor.
"You like this spot better Gerard?" Vic called over his shoulder.
"Y—yeah! That's a lot better." He replied in a chipper tone. He shifted his gaze back to his friend as he mumbled, "Thanks Frankie."
Frank whipped his head up and Gerard braced himself for an outburst, but his eyes were full of concern, not rage.
"You're not mad at me?" Frank's asked incredulously. "I'm sorry I snapped at you earlier, I realized later that you were probably joking but they said you were sick and I couldn't bother you so..." he trailed off again as Vic clapped non-existent dust off his hands and grabbed the art bin.
"I'm gonna leave you two to it then?" He asked Gerard, turning to leave with his supplies when Gerard nodded to him.
The second Vic's back was out of sight Gerard rushed to grab Frank's hand, pulling him into the room fully.
"Oh Frankie no! I'm sorry. I made a stupid joke and I didn't mean to make you mad. I'm really sorry... I didn't mean it, I know you obviously don't like it here."
Frank let go of his hand and sank down onto the bed with a sigh. "It's okay. The crazy thing is I actually kind of do like it here a bit."
Gerard moved to sit at the opposite end of the bed, not trusting that he'd been forgiven.
"I like it more now that you're here," Frank grinned at him before turning to speak to the ceiling, "but it kind of sucks everywhere."
Gerard followed his gaze, and when it became apparent he wasn't going to say any more he asked one of the dangerous questions.
"What's your home like anyway? Like what do you have to go back to out there?"
