"Gerard what happened?"

"Just take him inside... out of the hallway..."

"Just die already."

"I can't,.. it's stuck."

"Should be ashamed of yourself..."

"Here try mine."

"Pathetic excuse for a..."
"Waste of space."

"Gerard! What happened? I can't help you if— Thanks Tony. —come on, get up."

Gerard stayed curled tight in his ball of self-loathing. The nurses had gotten to him quickly and he could feel Vic knelt in front of him anxiously but didn't bother to raise his head or acknowledge the man. He'd stopped bothering to differentiate the voices in his head from those surrounding him, letting himself spiral with all the ways he'd let everyone down in his life.

"Frank hates you now..."
"...knows what you are."
"Scared Mikey..."
"Went fucking feral at Ray."
"Absolutely worthless..."

"At least come inside..? We can talk about it?"

"They'd all be better off if you just died."
"Hurry up and do it already."
"Worthless..."
"...scum of the earth."
"Waste of space..."

"Kid if you don't do what Victor asks it's gonna be way harder for you." The booming gravely voice of Frank's nurse cut through the din as he felt Vic stand and back away slightly.
He chanced a glance up, peaking through his dark hair without moving his head from his knees. He could just see the man's torso, arms crossed, harsh fluorescent lights glaring off the name badge pinned to his breast pocket. Next to the gangly limbs of Vic the man seemed mountainous. There was a reason he was the one assigned to Frank, he was probably the only human in the building who could subdue the kid single-handedly and now he was poised in front of Gerard with that same steely 'don't fuck with me' stance he pulled out when Frank got hostile.

What's he gonna do, pick me up?
...wait actually he might...

Gerard forced a shrug and buried his head deeper to show he had no intent of going anywhere. The voices were still laughing at him and tears still danced lazily down his cheeks leaving cold trails on the hot flush of shame he felt for causing such a scene.

The larger nurse shuffled as if to take a step forward but Vic cut in front of him, "Gerard. You need to move. You're in the way out here and I know you don't want to bother people."

You don't know a fucking thing about me!! Just leave me the hell alone and let me die!
Fuck off Vic....

He drew in a shakey breathe that shuddered and gave away the tears he was trying to hide.

"Come on... just around the corner, you don't even have to stand up..."

"Victor just let me move him, it'll take two minutes. You know how they get, he won't listen to reason. I don't know why you're trying to—"

I'm not letting you get him in fucking trouble just because of me... asshole.

Gerard released his legs, uncurling til his knees were on the floor.
Sure enough Vic stood next to his now open door, the larger nurse was facing Vic, gesturing vaguely while continuing to lecture him on how best to deal with 'unruly teens'. There was a third person hovering behind him anxiously, from the shoes he assumed it was another nurse. He really didn't care at the moment, he just wanted to get away from them all,.. from himself.

He crawled on his hands and knees, unable to bring himself to stand. He shuffled his way shamefully through the doorframe until he was on the other side of the wall he'd just left.
With one last disgruntled sniffle he pulled his knees back up, returning to ball-form once more now that he was inside his room and safely out of the way.
