Annabeth hated not knowing. Being a daughter of Athena, knowing was her speciality. So, her irrational fear of spiders and the unknown was justified.

Every time she thought of the future, she saw nothing. She was standing in the middle of nowhere, everything pitch black, surrounded in deafening silence. This was what she saw for most of her childhood. It dissapeared for the brief period of time she found Thalia and Luke. But then, Thalia turned into a tree and the silence was back again.

Then, Percy appeared. They both soon became best friends. They became closer than most people, despite having a parentage of sworn enemies. After his arrival, when she thought of her future, she saw him as well. Still, surrounded by darkness and silence, but she could smell the ocean and feel his hand in hers.

Because Annabeth hated the unknown, you'd think that she would love the Oracle. But all she could bring herself to think about that skeleton was sadness and anger. When the Delphi had given her her quest, she wanted to cry. She didn't know what to do. She hated not knowing. Percy was there for her then. He had hugged her and tried to comfort her.

Then, Percy died. Or she thought he did. Turns out he was sitting in Calypso's Island. Stranded in Ogygia. She wanted to blame him, shout at him for being gone for two entire weeks. She couldn't, though. She couldn't bring herself to. She was more relieved than anything. She never wanted to go through the feeling of losing him again. Those two weeks were torture for her. If she ever thought about the future or The Prophecy, she could only see darkness and hear nothing.

Then, the two got together. Percy and her were officially dating. Boyfriend and girlfriend. She was ecstatic. She was designing the new Olympus, she had a great boyfriend, she was truly happy. There were losses, losses that could never be replaced. But ones that you can overcome.

When she thought about the future now, she saw darkness. But she also saw Percy, Grover, Nico, Thalia, Clarisse, Malcolm, The Stolls, Katie, Will, everyone. She was truly happy for the first time since she met Luke and Thalia. For the first time, she wasn't scared at the thought of her future.

She should've known it wouldn't last. She was never that lucky.

Her mom was not talking to her. The gods were completely off the grid. She was worried. Her mom may not have been the best mother, but she still loved her. She was terrified for what was about to come. She couldn't help but think that the prophecy that Rachel had spoken as soon as she became The Oracle was beginning to happen.

One night Percy is kissing her good night, after the campfire. The next morning, he disappears. No note, bed empty. She searched across the camp. The lake, the strawberry fields, the training area, the forest. No one had seen him, no one knew where he was. The future looked black again. She could feel Percy's presence, but it was so faint that she believed she imagined it.

She went back to his cabin. She curled up in his bed grabbing one of shirts and breathing into it. She closed her eyes, trying not to think of the pitch black silence she saw.

Come back, Percy.
