I can't believe Jayden forced me to wake up this early and study with him. Of all the things I could be doing on the weekend before finals, I'm working on a Physics packet with too many problems. I could be in bed right now, watching TV and ignoring the fact that I have five tests in the span of three days. But no, the small part of me that actually wants to try and is following Jayden's advice that the world only goes round because people try is forcing me to be productive.
"Finally," I dramatically drop the pencil against the table, "Done with the Physics packet."
Jayden looks up from his own work, "I'll check it while you start on the math."
My face falls and I give Jayden a hateful glare. My hand is still cramped up and he's already telling me to do more. I can barely see straight after all that Physics, there's no way he expects me to just whip out some new brain cells and do two more hours of work.
"No, we're taking a break, it's been two hours."
"So? We've got five classes to get through."
"No," I tell him again, "That's torture."
Jayden grabs my Physics packet and slides it over to his side of the table. We'd decided to sit in front of each other instead of beside each other like we usually do. Well, Jayden decided because he thought we got too distracted when we were beside each other. It's not that we get distracted, it's that it's easier for me to mess with him when he's beside me.
"I'll make you a deal," Jayden offers, "We do one more hour, and then we'll take a longer break for lunch."
"What's longer?"
I've learned to ask all the details when it comes to making deals with Jayden. He always seems to find the loopholes if I don't. Like that bet we made when he changed the problem I had to solve after we'd shook on it. Unfair, but legally he hadn't done anything wrong. I hated how he could be so clever sometimes.
"A whole hour."
My eyes widen slightly, "How much time were you gonna give me?"
"Thirty minutes was gonna be generous."
What the hell is wrong with nerds?
"So, your plan is to kill me?"
He shakes his head, "My plan is to make you pass all your finals."
"That's somehow worse than dying," I mumble, slumping forward and resting my chin on my arms that are crossed in front of me.
"Do we have a deal?"
"Yes," I grumble, picking up the pencil again, "We have a deal."
The next hour passes way too slow for my taste. I get about four problems done in that span of time and I dare say it almost killed me. After the two hours of Physics I'd done, I didn't think I'd be able to even add two plus two, but alas, here I am. Jayden smiles, proud of himself, as he watches me finish up the last problem before we take our lunch break. I can feel his eyes on me and it's both unnerving and frustrating. How dare he be so happy at a time like this where I'm functioning at a three brain cell maximum.
"Ready for lunch?" Jayden asks me.
"I brought cinnamon rolls my dad made. But if you're gonna keep making me do this, I need something substantial."
"I'm not making you do anything," He has the audacity to respond, "I'm helping you do something."
I huff, resting my chin on my arms again as I lean over on the table, "Don't spew your nerd nonsense to me, I know what's really going on."
