With classes being over I am finally able to relax, take a breath, and not wake up at 7am. This is what bliss feels like.
"Get your ass down here, Haley!" I hear my father yell at me.
Or not.
I groan and flip over in my bed, hoping that will block out my dad's screaming so early in the morning. I grunt as my boobs land on my mattress. Grabbing my pillow, I swiftly cover my head with it, blocking the sunlight that was seeping from my window as well as muffling any sounds.
"Haley," I hear again.
I groan in frustration before flipping over and staring at my bland ceiling. What could possibly be so important that my dad has to yell at me with such rage. This is my first day of winter break, please have some mercy.
Of course, I get none.
"I'm getting up," I yell back and then grumble to myself, "Stupid daylight."
Turning over to see the time on the clock, I see 1pm. Oh, maybe that's why he's yelling.
Nonetheless, I grumble and pout myself out of bed and make my way to my bathroom. I do the necessary things: brush teeth, shower, brush hair, before making my way to my dad who I assumed was yelling from the kitchen. Guessing correctly, the smell of fettuccine alfredo fills my nose.
"Okay, maybe it was worth getting up," I greet my dad.
"Good afternoon to you too," He laughs at both my lateness at starting the day and lack of greeting.
"Yeah, yeah," I wave him off," Why'd you wake me up anyway?"
"It's Christmas shopping day," my dad smiles to me, reminding me of our annual tradition.
Every first day of vacation my dad, mom, and I would go buy all the presents for everyone we wanted. It would take most of the day and several drives to get all the shopping done. However, it was so much fun to spend the day with my parents. Now, even though it was only my dad and I, I still enjoyed the tradition.
I slap my head at my forgetfulness, "Right, let me go get changed."
Once we've eaten my dad and I make our way to the shopping center, the Monroe shopping center. It felt weird to shop here after knowing I get tutored by the son of the owner. But this is the best shopping center with the best stores in a 100 mile radius.
"You go that way, I go this way. We meet at the food court at 7pm," I game plan with my dad.
He nods and makes his way in the opposite direction I start heading. It usually didn't take me too long to find gifts as I only ever needed two. My dad was usually easy to shop for, any new baking utensil or cookbook usually brought a smile to his face. That, combined with a nerdy trinket made his fucking year. Emma was a little more complicated, but I usually settled for sexy lingerie or something designer. Although it was the rare occasion I had enough money saved for the latter.
This year was no different. I quickly found an electric juice and a Star Wars funky pop for my dad. My dad has been really into citrus based baked goods recently. Watching him hand squeeze the juice out for 5 oranges at least twice a week was becoming painful even for me.
Moving on to Emma, I head straight to Victoria's Secret. While I'm looking through all the lingerie, I wonder which Emma would find the sexiest.
"Are you looking for a specific something to seduce a crush?" I worker comes up to me.
"Umm, what do you think a bad bitch would like?" I ask, referring to my best friend, "It's a gift for a friend."
Amy, as I've come to know her from her name tag, smiles at me, "Follow me."
