"You're dating Jayden Monroe!" Emma could not have yelled louder.
Thank god my dad is out right now or he'd think someone is dying with the squeals Emma is letting out. I don't think I've ever seen her as excited as this.
"Finally," She says once she's calmed down, "Took you long enough."
"Excuse me?"
Emma walks over to me and sits beside me on my bed. She'd come over because her mom's boyfriend, Jimmy, had declared his infamous Jimmy time. Emma was not about to walk in on them having sex on the kitchen table again. I don't think she's eaten at the table since.
"You guys have liked each other for so long it was painful," She explains, "I thought it would never happen."
"Hey, I got there," I say jokingly offended.
"Girl, I got together with Jaxon before you two."
I roll my eyes at the idea that I took too long to get together with Jayden. I didn't want to rush Jayden, I cared about him. I didn't want to lose him by forcing him to be with me, in more ways than one.
"How is that going by the way? You and Jaxon."
"Amazing, the sex is fucking fantastic," Emma exclaims, "But honestly though, he's sweet and caring. I never really saw myself with a boyfriend until him, and I'm happy it's him."
I can tell by the glint in her eye that Emma truly cares about Jaxon. Is that what I look like when I talk about Jayden? Is it that obvious to everyone how much I like him? It has to be. Just as easily as I can read Emma, she must be able to read me.
"How was the date last night?"
"Perfect."
I recount to her the events of last night. The gorgeous dinner, the making out by the lake, him actually touching me. Every little detail of the perfect night. A night I didn't have to think about school or his parents hating me. A night where it was just me and him and nobody else in the world.
Wow, way to be a teenaged girl, Haley.
"Not to be a party pooper," Emma begins, already making worry bubble up inside of me, "But how are you going to act at school?"
I furrow my eyebrows, confused at her question. What does school have to do with Jayden and I dating? I don't respond and my confused expression must be enough for Emma to understand that she needs to explain what she means.
Emma runs her fingers through her long hair, taking a breath, "Don't you think there's gonna be a lot of rumors surrounding you two once people notice you guys are dating? I mean just think of all the rumors that started because of Jaxon and I dating."
My face falls at her words as realization takes over me. She was right after all.
When Emma and Jaxon started dating, rumors about the two of them were running rampant. Everyone would stare at their interactions, making their own assumptions about why the two were being seen together. Jaxon's ex-girlfriend was especially jealous of the two of them. Thus the most prominent rumor was that Jaxon was dating Emma to make his ex jealous. The other rumor was that Emma was using Jaxon for a few quick fucks.
It was ridiculous the things students came up with to stay entertained. They only do it because their own lives are so boring, they need something to spice it up.
