"When do you think you'll give Jayden his gift?"
I collapse on Emma's bed and look towards her. She's putting the finishing touches on her makeup at her small vanity. Jaxon had called her a couple of days after the Christmas party to ask her out on a date. Emma had called me over a couple of hours ago to help her plan her outfit. They were going out to dinner and then he said he had a surprise and to wear comfortable shoes.
Emma had settled for a yellow sundress with doc martens. She looked absolutely stunning, like always. Her cheeks were slightly pink, not from her makeup but from her nerves and excitement.
"I don't know," I shrug awkwardly against her bed, "I want to go over but after Jayden's mom caught us in his room with empty champagne bottles, she seemed to think it was all my idea and all but kicked me out."
She turns to me quickly, "Just go, sneak in. Orc you could be normal and invite him over."
"I guess I could," I mutter, mulling over the idea of sneaking in, "Sneaking in sounds fun though."
I would love to see Jayden's face if he saw me at his window, waving like a maniac. He's either have a heart attack, scream like a girl, or throw a shoe at the window and break it. All good options.
"Then nobody would know I'm even there," I speak my thoughts now.
Emma winks at me through the mirror of her vanity, "Somebody wants to get it on with the nerd."
I blush at the thought of Jayden and I getting further than just making out and barely touching each other. I felt like he was still nervous about it, about us. But maybe it was just because we hadn't really talked about it. We should talk about it, shouldn't we? What would we even talk about? What would I say?
"Emma, do I tell him I like him?"
She immediately freezing, stopping mid brush of her hair, "You haven't told him you like him? Are you crazy? Haley, you guys have kissed more times than I remember and you haven't even given him a little hint that you like him?"
Emma knew how little I gave away with my eyes and body language. Even though I loved the feeling of him touching me and having him close to me, I hadn't shown him. I had assumed by this point that Jayden liked me, even if just a little. He was constantly blushing and nervous around me. And don't even get me started on asking to kiss me.
"Umm, no."
"Haley, tell him something," She shakes her head but there's a smile on her face, "Poor boy probably thinks you're using for some quick satisfaction."
He was anything but that.
"He's anything but that."
"Don't tell me, tell him."
The door bell rings and Emma jumps out of her chair. She turns to me, a nervous look in her eyes. She pats her dress down even though it's perfectly straight.
"Girl, you look gorgeous, go get your 'J' and keep him."
Emma laughs, "If only his name started with a 'D', that joke would be much better."
We make our way down the hallway, towards the front door.
"Go open," I urge her, staying back.
She skips to the door and opens it to reveal a very nicely dressed Jaxon with a bouquet of sunflowers in his hands. The flowers matched Emma's dress perfectly it almost felt like fate. I smile at the couple that's having a quiet interaction that I can't hear.
Emma turns to me and shoots me a smile and a small wave before she's whisked away by Jaxon. Turning around, I go back to Emma's room and gather all my things I had brought to help her out, varying from clothes to makeup. She had worn the lingerie I had gifted her for Christmas and I hoped she'd be lucky enough to put it to use.
