Chapter 6

That evening, after dinner, I sat with Rowan in the living room, facing her parents as we waited to hear my fate.

Her mother sighed. "I'm sure you know we aren't too happy about this Rowan."

"I know..."

"And he can't stay in your closet, that's for sure."

We both looked down, waiting for them to shove me out the door.

"But he certainly can't stay out in the park."

I hung my head more, then I realized what she had said and I looked up to see a broad smile on both of their faces.

Rowan stared at them. "You mean-?"

Her mother nodded. "He can stay. Just not in your room."

Rowan jumped up with a squeal and hugged them both. "Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!" She shouted happily.

I smiled and stood. "Thank you."

Rowan's mother walked over and gave me a hug. "Don't worry dear, we'll find a family for you to live with. Somewhere nearby so you can still see Rowan."

Rowan stared at her. "I thought you said he could stay..."

She nodded. "He can. But we want to find a family for him as well."

"Oh..."

Rowan looked over at me. I had a smile on my face, something I hadn't done in a long time. It seemed to show her how happy I was, because she began to smile just as much.

"No more sleeping in the park," Rowan giggled at me.

I nodded at her in agreement. "No more sleeping in the park."

Sorry for the short chapter! I was trying to make a cliffhanger with the last one, but it ended up giving me WB... Maybe I'll do better in the next chapter! ~SOTI
