The nine stood in front of Yen Sid's desk at attention. Yen Sid grinned at all of his champions.
"You have all been brought here for a mission of great importance," he said, "not long after Riku left to return Sora to this realm, a new portal appeared near the Keyblade Graveyard. My powers tell me that this realm has its own light and darkness that have been at odds for time immemorial."
The group exchanged a few brief glances.
"So? Light and darkness are always at odds," Axel said, "what's different about this realm?"
"Light and darkness take no physical form in that realm. They supply power to their respective wielders giving them abilities we would consider to be unnatural."
"So is this just an exploration?" Aqua asked.
"I'm afraid not. Though light has long reigned supreme in the realm, an event is coming that could shake the power of light and plunge the realm into darkness."
"So we're being a new source of light for that realm?" Kairi asked.
"No. You simply must make sure there is still light after."
Everyone was mildly uncomfortable with the implications.
"Understand, if you can manage to subvert the conquest of darkness, that is even better. But the light in this realm does not carry the same freedom that light does here."
"What does that mean?" Sora asked.
"You will know. Now go forth, my champions."
They all bowed and left. They reached the gummiship and flew it toward where the portal allegedly was. Once they reached it they were shocked at the size of it. The portal was as large as an entire world. They stopped just outside it and took in the massive size.
"Okay," Axel said, "so how do we get in?"
"May my heart be my guiding key," Sora muttered under his breath.
He summoned his keyblade and pointed it at the portal. The tip glowed white, as did the portal and the gummiship. In a flash of light, they were all through the portal. Once the flash had died down, they were over a world that was one giant city. Going to and from the world were dozens of other ships. All nine were in awe. A light from one of the panels in the gummiship brought them back to there. Riku, who was sitting in what would have been Goofy's seat, tapped the light cautiously. A screen appeared on the cockpit glass. In it was a strange, wrinkly, green creature with pointy ears.
"A welcome, I bid you," it spoke, "Master Yoda, of the Jedi Council, this is."
"Uh," Sora said, "He-hello."
"From this galaxy, I sense you are not."
"Galaxy? I mean, how did you know? I mean-- what do you mean?"
"Appeared in Wild Space, a strange object did. Capture it, we could not. Monitoring it, we have been. Powerful light, I sense you have. Come. To the Jedi Temple. Like to meet you in person, I would. Much to discuss, there is."
The screen disappeared. They didn't quite know what to make of Master Yoda. He seemed to know that they weren't from here, yet he didn't seem bothered. What bothered Sora a bit was that none of them changed appearance. If that kind of being was who was on the world, and world order says that all of the inhabitants are like that, why didn't they change to appear like that? Another light flashed and Riku pressed it. Another screen appeared. On it wasn't Master Yoda. It was instead an old man in very formal robes. They all could feel something was off, but they couldn't quite put their fingers on it.
