Six days.

Day six.

The sixth day.

The 144th hour.

However you want to say it, it means the same. Is just as terrible.

I've been dead that long.

I stayed in the same spot as always, hovering inches above my chalk outline. I did the same thing as always, cried.

No one has come by my alley, and that saddens me a little. I was lonely.

I was also confused. Why was I lonely? Didn't I want everyone to stay away?

The confusion made me cry harder.

"Oh~ what's wrong?"

The voice was loud, but kind and feminine, surrounding me. I stopped crying, instantly drawn to the voice as I turned and saw the source. A huge monster with a skull mask. Yet, it didn't scare me, it seemed beautiful.

It radiated a bright, warm light. It drew me in.

"What are you?" I asked softly, reaching it.

It's hand cupped my cheek. "I'm the one that's going to make the pain go away."

Hope filled me. "Really?! You mean it?!"

It nodded. "Yes, but it will hurt for a moment. Only a moment."

I hesitated. "You promise.....?"

It seemed to smile as it laughed softly, drawing me in more. "Yes, dear. I promise."

I still wasn't sure.

"I can help you leave this place," it added.

"O-Okay," I relented.

It sounded so nice, so helpful. It had to be genuine. Why judge a book by its cover?

"Good, good!" It said eagerly. "Stay perfectly still, now."

I nodded. "Okay."

"Excellent! I hate when my food plays hard to get!"

Wait....

Did.... It just say.....

Food?

I snapped out of it, diving to the side. But the monster hit the chains hanging around the alley, and I screamed in pain.

"Never fear, dear," it said soothingly, approaching me slowly again. "The pain will leave soon!"

It jumped at me again and I dove to the side again.

It once again hit the chains, and I shrieked in agony.

"Just. Stay. Still!" It said, sounding pretty pissed.

"No! Go away!" I yelled. Trash hovered a moment, then pelted the monster.

"Oh, yuck! Gross! Stop that! You're going to ruin my appetite!" It yelled, swinging at me. I hit the wall- or more like barrier- and slid down, still not touching the ground.

The monster crept forwards victoriously.

"Leave... Me.... Alone," I gasped weakly.

"Do not fear," it said sweetly. "You won't feel the pain soon. You won't feel a thing."

It sank its teeth into my shoulder, and I screamed.

It jerked away, batting frantically at its tongue. "Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! Ouch! OUCH! What the HELL?! What kind of toxin are you?! Nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!" It disintegrated, leaving me there.

I guess covers are on books for a reason..........
