Zara laid in bed, unable to sleep. Her mind was racing with thoughts. She was stressed mainly because she was waiting for her record label to give her the go ahead on the production of her album, they'd delayed it due to the pandemic. On the other hand this date with Max was stressing her out.

The last time she got into a romantic relationship she ended up heartbroken and a shell of herself. She never wanted to experience that kind of pain ever again. That's why she left Max alone in that hotel room in Ibiza last year. She was scared he'd break her heart.

Zara was tipsy, that was easy to see. She'd just had a fight with her boyfriend, Marco, and instead of working things out like a healthy couple, she'd called her friend Martin who booked her a flight to Ibiza. He was currently performing a residency at one of the biggest clubs in the world's party central.

He'd also happened to invite a few of his athlete friends, including Max Verstappen who'd just broken up with his girlfriend of 3 years. He was equally as drunk as Zara. Knowing that both of his friends were heartbroken, or hoping to distract Zara from her douchebag boyfriend, he'd introduced them to one another. But before he could say anything Max spoke up.

"Hi I'm Emiliano. What's your name pretty lady?". The driver introduced himself while sending a smirk towards the blonde girl seated next to him.
She rolled her eyes with a giggle before giving him her attention.
"The names Brooklyn. And that was such a crappy pick up line."
The boy was shocked to say the least. And that when their game of cat and mouse began.

Every time they saw each other, throughout the week, he'd come up with multiple pick up lines hoping to make her smile. Which he did every time.
Finally on the Saturday night they'd gone to dinner alone, together.
Which was completely unintentional.

Zara walked into the posh restaurant, searching for Martin and the rest of the crew. Yet it was empty. She was about to leave when Max walked in the room.
"Hey, Brooklyn. Where is everyone else? Did Martin send you the wrong address as well?" He'd been parked outside for 10 minutes trying to call Martin after seeing that the restaurant was empty.

Before she could respond a waiter came out of the back and approached them.
" Ah Ms. Brooke and Mr. Emilio you're here. I'm Lorenzo. Your friend Mr. Garrix asked me to serve you two tonight. If you'd follow me."

The couple released a breath they'd been holding when they realized Martin kept their respective identities a secret to the other. They both followed the older man as he led them to table in the middle of the restaurant.
Lorenzo notified them that the menu was carefully planned by Martin and he'd paid for everything ahead of time. This allowed them to wine and dine without a worry in the world. Yet they didn't get too drunk as Max still had to drive them back to their respective hotels.

Before they went back they stopped at the beach for some ice cream and a walk, Max's idea after he found out she'd be leaving the next day.
And so the sat in a both looking out at the ocean, the stars twinkling against the dark background of the night sky.

"Isn't it crazy that no matter where you are the stars will appear at night, giving you the same views wherever you are in the world." Max whispered to the girl. She nodded as she thought about her dad's words about stars.
"My father always told me to look up to the stars whenever I missed him because every night wherever he is he'd also be looking at the same thing. That way I'd feel like he never left."
The girl told the boy. At this point they were cuddled together.

They continued talking, keeping it light and avoiding the topic of their private lives, only sharing the basic details. Despite the ice cream, their bodies were still hot and slightly sweaty from the heatwave pulsing through the island. This paired with wine made their thoughts a little hazy and lowered their inhibitions. It didn't help that throughout the week they'd been teasing each other with light touches and lingering kisses on the cheek, edging closer and closer towards each other's lips . The tension between them was high.

This led them to Max's bedroom, where they ordered champagne. Which led them to explore each other's bodies in bed.
A night that they'd never forget.

Yet when the bright morning sun woke him up, Max found himself alone in bed. She hadn't left a note or a single clue that she'd even been there. She simply disappeared.

Later Martin would reveal that she had changed her number to avoid her ex boyfriend and that she'd left early due to an emergency.
Which wasn't a lie but it still hurt that she never tried to get in touch with him.

Zara could admit that if there is one thing she regrets in life, it's not staying that morning. Max made her feel something she hadn't felt in a long time, alive.

She'd been so bogged down by work, her irritating boyfriend and the constant travelling that she'd begun to rely on coffee and the excited screams of fans to keep her going. The lock down helped her unwind and center herself. She was able to get 8 hours of sleep regularly for the first time in two years. She saw her family every day, albeit her dad was all the way in Europe but at least she was with her mother and brother. She found the inspiration and confidence to write again, something she'd struggled with in the past year.
She was ready to do what she couldn't a year ago, let somebody in.
