"How are you holding up babe?" Kim asked me.

I sighed before answering. "Better." I missed him though. Truthfully, everyone knew that. And I felt like such a sod for doing so.

"It'll be alright honey. You didn't do anything wrong." Kris said before leaning her head on my shoulder. "Besides, you have us and Alastair." She always knew how to cheer me up.

My nails were perfect, and I paid for the lot, my shout. The day dragged on, Kris and Kim took me to heaps of places, went out for some ice cream and I guess they figured that wasn't enough, they took me to a place with this hot cocoa that had a little burner underneath, so that it would stay warm.

"Thanks again for everything guys....but, I think I really just need to get home." My voice was hoarse. There were too many thoughts flooding my mind, crashing like angry waves upon a huge cliff. My head was pounding.

"Are you sure Dom? We ca -

"Please. You guys have done so much already. You're starting to make me feel guilty." I gave them a weak smile. Hopefully that would work.

The two of them looked at each other, communicating through their eyes. Kim turned to face me. She sighed. "Alright. But let us take Al at least?"

"I think it's best if he stays with me, I don't want to be totally alone." The last part was almost a whisper.

"Uh...okay. Sure, don't you have to pick him up now? We can drop you off and then pick him up for you? That let's us steal the carseat from your car." Kim tried to perk me up.

I could see the two of them pleading. "Fine. Sure."

The two even bought Alastair and I some sushi. Now I really felt bad. "Thank you guys, you're too nice." I said hugging them tightly. "And thanks for picking up little Al here for me." I squished his cute little cheeks and he pulled a face.

"No worries Dom, any time. You know we love the little guy." Kris ruffled his hair and gave him a kiss. Kim kissed him too.

"Alright, well we'd better be off. I need to take the car in for a service tomorrow and they only had an early booking. Night and enjoy your sushi." Kim cooed Alastair into handing her back her keys and she started for the car. "I'll see you around hun!"

Kris leaned into me, "You're going to be alright Dom. You're a great mother, Alastair is lucky to have someone like you." She pulled the two of us into a tight hug. "You two take care of yourself alright?" She waved before catching up with Kim.

My eyes were already starting to water as I watched her get into the car. God I missed Tom.

Al and I ate dinner in the living room, I sat on the ground and he sat in my lap. We were watching SpongeBob. I was thankful that he wasn't playing up today, I don't think I could deal with that right now. I think Al could sense how I was feeling, he'd been paying me compliments all night, it made it harder to put an act for him.

Alastair fumbled a bit before getting up. His hands were covered in rice and soy sauce. "Mummy, look, Gary!"

"Yes, I know hun. He's funny isn't he?" I smiled a weak smile.

"He's funny!" he started bouncing around, his fists clenched, squishing the remaining rice in his hands.

Al saw me smile and ran up to me. I saw him start to pull his hands up to my face, but I was too late to avoid them. His hands cupped my face, rice and all, "Mummy's beautiful."
