A buzzing woke me. The light from my phone lit up the room and my eyes took the sudden change of environment badly. Squinting and rubbing at my eyes, I grabbed my cell to see that I’d gotten a message from Tom.

Thank you for letting me stay last night. I had a great time and I just had to zip off home to shower before work. I’ll see you soon ;)

The message was difficult to read but my mind registered what it needed. Tom had left early, he was off to shower, and he had had a great night – with me and Alastair.

Checking the time on my screen, I realised I should be getting up, readying myself and Alastair for our busy days.

Our morning went smoothly. Alastair didn’t wake up early which gave me plenty of time to prepare his bag and get myself washed and my hair and face made up. I was sitting with a good perculated cup of coffee, breakfast safely in my stomach. Everything was ready, all I needed to do was wake Al and check if I needed to change his nappy, then go. Looking out, the sky was milky with swirls of oranges and blues. The stone steps at the back of our humble abode were cold as I sat down, enjoying the view. Dew sprinkled the grass in the small backyard, sparkling under the morning sun. I took a sip of my double shot coffee, I never wake up this early. I almost wish that I always had mornings like this, to be early enough to see and smell the dew dusted over the town, but I remember that I’m not much of a morning person and it’ll hit me at the end of the day. The coffee smells fantastic and feels even better as it warms my throat. Checking my phone, remembering that I had a txt from Tom, I popped up the message again. Re-reading it, I didn’t know what to reply without sounding hopeless.

No worries. It was my pleasure. Thank you for helping out with Al, you don’t know how much that means to me. See you soon. :)

Not too bad, still wreaks of despair but it’ll do. I clicked send and let my coffee steal my attention away from the gorgeous view. My mind flashed an image of Tom, of him kissing me, the sweetness of the kiss and the smell of his alcohol intertwining with mine. I couldn’t help but close my eyes and let myself enjoy the memory, we might have been a little intoxicated but it was still something I wouldn’t get over, not too soon anyway. Finishing up the drink, I decided that we should start making our way to day-care.

After dropping off Al at school, I’d made it to our new location; I would be having my own trailer for our department. Al was good this morning too, everything seemed to start looking up, and to be honest it was very long awaited. Apparently I would be shown which one was ours but now I was lost and these bags were really starting to get heavy.

“Hey there stranger.” The voice was deep and familiar. I could hear the smile in the voice.

Turning, at first I only saw his chest but looking up, there he was. He looked even more magnificent in the morning light. His eyes almost superhuman.

“Hey, how are you holding up?” I asked putting my bags down.

“Not too bad actually. I think I owe my common sense a ‘thank you’ for stealing a glass of water last night.” He chuckled. “You headed towards the hair and make-up trailer?”

A smile on my face, “Sort of, you see the problem is, I have no idea where I’m going.”

Tom gave another chuckle, “Don’t worry, I’ll show you where to go, how are you? I’m sorry I almost forgot to ask.” Tom took one of my bags but didn’t insist on taking the other, he was finally starting to get me.

“Oh, I’m perfectly fine. I don’t get hangovers, well not headaches anyways.” I said whilst grabbing my bag.

“Well aren’t you the lucky one.” He took long strides but knew to slow his pace a little.
